WATERS THROWS HAT IN RING AT SALT LAKE CITY;

McCLISH ENDS WYSONG'S USAC/SLVRA STREAK

            Former two-time series champion Jim Waters of Salt Lake City, Utah has bolted into contention for the 2006 USAC/SLVRA Young Automotive Rocky Mountain Sprint Car Championship. He will try to slice into leader Jimmy Wysong's 29-point lead this Saturday when the series continues at Rocky Mountain Raceways in Salt Lake City. A 40-lap feature is on tap at the 3/8-milke paved oval and 76 total points are available.

            Wysong's four-race winning streak and undefeated 2006 status were halted Saturday at RMR when he encountered mechanical problems while running third on lap 12. He was placed 11th in the official finish behind race winner Brian McClish.

            McClish, of Santa Rosa, Calif., paced the final 26 circuits after slipping by Jim Campbell on lap 15. Waters finished second ahead of Mel Andrus, Rick Pardee and Jeff Bergener. Pardee led the first two laps, while Campbell led the next 12.

            Waters also posted the fastest qualifying time and vaulted past Dave Fitzgerald, who slipped from second to third in the standings after not starting Saturday's feature.
