Vandergriff out early in St. Louis

     MADISON, Ill. (June 25, 2006) - Sunday's elimination's of the O'Reilly
NHRA Midwest NHRA Nationals at Gateway International Raceway were run under a
beautiful blue sky laden with white puffy clouds. Quite a contrast to the past
few years of high heat and humidity. Although it appeared to be a picture
perfect day, the UPS Top Fuel team ended up just short of defeating J.R. Todd in
the opening round. Bob Vandergriff Jr. lost by the smallest of margins when he
put down a 4.860 second blast which proved to be not enough for Todd's
holeshot victory of 4.863 seconds.
After a two weekend break back at their Alpharetta, GA., shop the UPS
dragster will do battle at the Mopar Mile-High Nationals at Bandimere Speedway
outside Denver, Colorado.
Vandergriff leaves St. Louis in 13th position in the NHRA POWERade
points standings.
