>Not Just Another Day At The Beach!
>Vincec hailed as “King of the Bay”
>
>BARRIE, ON – Michael Vincec can now be hailed as Barrie’s “King of the
>Bay” after a grueling day of finals under beautiful but hot weather
>conditions. Vincec won the elite Formula Senior class while up against a
>very strong field. He then went on to battle Marco Di Leo for the F1-K
>crown coming in second. Most people would call it a day but Vincec had one
>more race on his schedule, the highly competitive Rotax Max Senior. He won
>this one too but had the glory dashed due to a technical infraction. To
>add insult injury a sure spot on the “Star Racer” was lost due his being
>53 days too young!
>
>Most of the other 10 classes saw some fierce battles and the courageous
>return of Jenn Remple who suffered severe bruising from an accident the
>previous day that sent her to the hospital. Remple was one of the drivers
>chosen to move into the “Star Racer” competition along with her brother
>Greg, brothers Kyle & Pearce Herder, Richard Boake, Matt Champagne, Marco
>Di Leo and David Patrick.
>
>Rotax Max Senior
>This highly anticipated final ended as a Vincec domination after Devin
>Cunningham damaged his front end on a hay bale on the second lap. Vincec
>grabbed the lead and just blew away from the field. Eric Gerrits moved to
>a distant second but was declared the winner after Vincec was DQ’d in tech.
>
>Quebec’s Christophe Boisclair was awarded second place followed by Darren
>White.
>
>Canada Junior Heavy
>Kevin Monteith capped off his weekend by winning from the pole position.
>Michael Di Meo repeated his second place finish from the prefinal and was
>joined on the podium by Matthew Pilon.
>
>F1-K Cadet
>Reid Arnold stuck to his guns and never gave up and won with a last lap
>pass beating Spencer Todd. Anthony Furfari had to settle for the third
>step of the podium after having an early lead taken away by Spencer.
>
>World Formula Junior
>Jeffery May took the win after leading the final two laps. Jesse Facchhini
>was second having battled Joshua Korenyi for most of the race. Korenyi
>fell back as far as fifth at the midpoint but salvaged a third place by
>the final flag.
>
>Canada Senior
>A very hotly contested class led by the Herder Brothers resulted in one of
>the best races of the day. Kyle Herder came out on top after leading most
>of the laps with Marco Di Leo in second after Herder made aa last lap dive
>inside the Tiffin street hairpin. Herder was down to fifth three laps from
>the finish but came back to win. Greg Rempel completed the podium.
>
>F1-K Junior
>David Ostella gave a command performance leading every lap of his final.
>Corey Luciano had a battle for second with Scott Laporte for most of the
>heat but it would be Brendan Wales who would be third.
>
>Formula Senior
>Pole sitter Mike Roth saw his chances go up in clutch smoke when he
>stalled on the grid after the formation lap. The same happened to local
>favourite Kyle Marcelli after the second formation lap, which saw the
>front row placed at the back of the grid. This gave Michael Vincec the
>pole with Frank Launi beside him.
>
>Vincec got a good start off the line and never looked back. Launi did what
>he could but after a lapped kart spun at Tiffin Street Launi could not
>gain on Vincec. Matt Champagne in his return to karts would have to settle
>for a distant third.
>
>Canada Junior Light
>This was another class with multiple leaders but when the dust had settled
>Ryan Klutt was on top of the podium. He had the lead in only the last
>three laps but they were the ones that counted. Andrew Waring was upfront
>but finished second followed by Dylan Van Tienen.
>
>F1-K Senior
>This final was another hot bed of leaders with the lead switching between
>Michael Vincec and Marco Di Leo. Di Leo finished on top denying Vincec a
>tripleheader on the day. Steven Matthews came in third.
>
>Rotax Max Junior
>They’ll remember the name Smrz at the next Barrie Grand Prix after he
>handily won the final heat. Smrz led nearly lap from start to finish with
>a good battle with Kevin Montieth. Montieth’s race ended on Lap 9 and
>Dylan Gibson took on the task of catching Smrz. Cory Luciano however
>caught Gibson to take second place leaving Gibson in third.
>
>World Formula Senior
>Chris Holman and Corey Usher went head to head in their final heat with
>Holman coming out on top. Lapped traffic didn’t help Ryan Dennahower’s
>efforts to catch the leading pair leaving him in third place.
>
>The Pratt & Miller Team Spirit award, which is awarded to the team that
>exhibits the highest levels of teamwork in the areas of presentation,
>preparation and results, went to Tiffin Street Crew represented by David Giles.
>
>GM Racing awards for outstanding skills went to Michael Vincec who
>competed and led in three classes winning one and placing second in
>another. Kyle Herder who competed in two classes and won one.
