MADISON, Ill. (June 25, 2006) -- After qualifying No. 1, eliminations
for the NHRA O'Reilly Midwest Nationals was over almost as soon as it
started for Greg Anderson as part-time driver Steve Schmidt turned back
Anderson in the opening round.

Schmidt gained a .025 second starting advantage at the green light, then
held off the hard charging Anderson and his KB Racing LLC-owned, Summit
Racing Equipment-backed Pro Stock Pontiac GTO to take the win light. On
the Gateway International Raceway quarter-mile, it was a pass of 6.820
seconds for Anderson, while Schmidt recorded a run of 6.779 seconds.

Although his teammate Jason Line went to the semifinal, Anderson will
hold onto the lead in the NHRA POWERade Pro Stock point standing.
Unofficially, the top five are: 1.) Anderson (801 points); 2.) Jason
Line (799); 3.) Dave Connolly (730); 4.) Jim Yates (708); and 5.) Kurt
Johnson (696).

"Somehow we're treading water and hanging on to the points lead," said
Anderson. "We can't in our wildest imagination continue to do this and
think we'll continue to have the points lead after the Western swing.
We're going to have to find this problem out. Nobody can fix it but us.

"There's so much competition in the class right now, and on any given
day any car can win. Nobody is showing that they can win repeatedly,
not because everybody's doing a bad job but because everybody's doing a
good job. We've got to find a way to do a better job than we're doing
if we want to win again."

It now time for the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series midseason break.
The next event will be the third weekend in July when Bandimere Speedway
in Denver hosts the long running 27th annual NHRA Mopar Mile-High
Nationals, July 14-16.

The elimination show for the 10th annual NHRA O'Reilly Midwest Nationals
on ESPN2 repeats early Tuesday morning (June 27) from 2:30-4:30 a.m.
