KJ's Madison Title Defense Will Start from Second

Event: 10th Annual O'Reilly NHRA Midwest Nationals

Day/Date: Saturday, June 24, 2006

Location: Gateway International Raceway, Madison, IL

Kurt Johnson completed a very impressive qualifying effort on Saturday,
with his 6.693-second, 205.91 mph pass from Friday evening earning the
ACDelco Cobalt the second starting position for Sunday's final
eliminations of the O'Reilly NHRA Midwest Nationals in Madison, IL.
After posting the fourth quickest elapsed time in Pro Stock during the
first qualifying session on Friday afternoon, Johnson then reeled off
the second quickest time in each of the next three sessions, as well as
the fastest top speed in the final two sessions.

However, despite this impressive and consistent showing, at the
conclusion of qualifying, the second-generation racer was already hard
at work looking for ways to further improve his performance for race
day, as he looks to defend his Gateway International Raceway win from a
year ago.

"Overall, we're pretty pleased. Our ACDelco Cobalt seems to be running
well, and I seem to be doing my job behind the wheel. Of course,
everyone will be on their game tomorrow, so we have to make sure to stay
focused. The biggest key is getting our car to go straight. If we do
that on a consistent basis, it's an obvious area where we can pick up
our performance.

"Hopefully, tomorrow we can keep doing what we have been over the last
few races, putting a package together that can go some rounds. As I
told my crew guys this morning, we are on a mission to defend our win at
this race from a year ago, and we have about 24 hours left to complete
that mission. It's time to get ourselves in the zone."
