Bloomington Speedway -- June 23, 2006 Results
BLOOMINGTON, IN (June 24, 2006) - Last night the fans who crowded the hillside at Bloomington Speedway were treated to a great evening of racing excitement, as usual. Last night contained the most sunlight of any Friday night this season. Because of that and because the racing went smoothly, most of the program was completed before dark. Although the program went smoothly, none of the racing excitement routinely featured by Bloomington Speedway was missing. Don't let another Friday night go by without your being on the hillside with some of the greatest race fans anywhere.SPRINT CARS
During the early part of the Bloomington Speedway season, two drivers, Dick Gaines II and Jon Stanbrough, pretty much dominated the competition on the red clay. Both of them were on hand last night; but they finished fifth and seventh respectively. That takes nothing away from either driver. They are both great shoes; but there are a lot of great shoes at Bloomington Speedway.
There were also three drivers making their first appearance of the season on the red clay. J.T. Imperial ran with us a few times last season; but last night was his first appearance this season. Jim Dugan and Michael Bridges were making their first appearance even in a sprint car at Bloomington Speedway.
In preliminary action, Josh Cunningham, Bryan Clauson, Kenny Carmichael, and Kenny Carmichael, Jr. won their heat races while Jon Sciscoe, Jason Holt, Cole Whitt, and Kevin Briscoe earned a ticket to the redraw by finishing second.
Jon Stanbrough just missed transferring from his heat race; but he won the "B" feature to earn a ticket to the main event. Bobby Stines, Brent Beauchamp, and Chris Babcock also won transfers from the "B" feature to the main event.
The redraw put Jon Sciscoe and Kenny Carmichael of the front row to start the feature. Kevin Briscoe and Bryan Clauson were in the second row with Kenny Carmichael, Jr. and Josh Cunningham occupying the third row.
When the green flag waved Sciscoe, took the lead with Bryan Clauson and Kenny Carmichael in tow. However, on the third lap, Clauson shot past Sciscoe to take the lead. He then began to check out on the field. Clauson was making a rare appearance the Armstrong 7A. He is a Chip Ganassi development driver; and he is normally found in the Bullet house car fielded by Keith Kunz Motorsports out of Columbus. However, Bryan is \not allowed to run at Richmond where the USAC sprint cars and midgets are running this weekend because he is only seventeen.
It was clear that Clauson was the fastest driver on this Friday night. If he made no mistakes, he was going to win; and he made no mistakes. The real race was between Jon Sciscoe and Kevin Briscoe for second place. They traded the lead back and forth for the entire distance with Sciscoe edging Briscoe to take second place. Josh Cunningham came home fourth with Dickie Gaines taking fifth.
From victory lane, Clauson commented, "I want to thanki the Armstrong team for building this new car for me to drive hear tonight. I love to run hear at Bloomington Speedway; and I'll be here every Friday night that I don't have a USAC race."
Tire & Wheel Center Super Stocks:
Tyler Cain and Travis Howe started side by side on the front row of the Tire & Wheel Center super stock feature. When the green flag waved Cain took the lead with former Tire & Wheel Center super stock champion right on his tail. Cain held the point for the first fifteen circuits; but the following lap Kendall's experience paid off when passed Cain to take the lead. Points leader Jeremy Hines started 14th; but, by the middle of the race, he was running sixth. On the 18th lap Hines took fourth; and on the 22nd lap he passed Cain to take third. And, on the white flag lap he passed Grag Amick to take second. Amick, Tom Ault, and Gerald Todd rounded out the top five.
In preliminary action, Cain and Kendall won their heat races.
0'NEAL WOOD PRODUCTS MODIFIEDS -
In the O'Neal Wood Product modified division, Kent Robinson and John DeMoss pulled the pills that put them on the first row for the start of the feature event. Robinson won the drag race into the first turn to take the initial lead ahead of John DeMoss. Jeff Bland, Jr. started fourth; but he was fast. On the third lap he passed John DeMoss to take third; and, on the following lap, he passed Robinson to take the lead. Bland continued to put distance between his car and Robinson's. It looked like Bland was headed for his second feature win in a row. However, right after flagman Rusty Nunn signaled five laps to go Bland pulled his mount into the infield with an apparent suspension failure on the left front corner. His second win of the season would have to wait for another day. John DeMoss inherited a lead that he would hold until the checkered flag waved.
Ray Humphrey started the feature in sixth place; and, for most of the race, that's about where he ran. On the 20th lap he passed Kent Robinson to take fourth; and on the following lap he took second and went after DeMoss. However, DeMoss was determined to score his first feature win of the season.
Humphrey held on to finish second while Robinson, Ryan Thomas, and Clint DeMoss rounded out the top five.
In preliminary action Humphrey, Robinson, and John DeMoss won their heat races while Matt Boknecht prevailed in the "B" feature.
