Porsche returns to the site of original 1974 turbocharged Porsche 911
launch

Watkins Glen, NY (June 23, 2006) - Porsche unveiled its 2007 911 Turbo
to North America at Watkins Glen International this week. A four day
media event was held at The Soul of American Road Racing to help launch
the new 911 and included national and international media outlets such
as the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Boston Globe, Car and Driver
and Autoweek. This event marked the next chapter in a storied past
involving the historic racetrack and the prestigious automaker.

"We wanted to hold this event at Watkins Glen International because of
the rich history of Porsche with the track and the town," said Paul
Seredynski, Leader of Media Relations for Porsche. "We knew that media
would fully appreciate driving the legendary road course in this
extraordinary vehicle for the first time."

The common history between The Glen and Porsche can be traced back to
1948; the year they were both founded. Porsche first came to Upstate
New York for the final race on the famed streets of Watkins Glen in
1952. Watkins Glen International became a permanent circuit in 1956 and
by attracting respected competitors such as Porsche has become one of
the premier road racing facilities in North America. The history-rich
racetrack has hosted numerous prominent racing series during its
legendary existence including NASCAR, Formula 1, CART, IndyCar, Grand
American, Trans Am, Can Am and SCCA.

The first turbocharged Porsche 911 made its North American debut at The
Soul of American Road Racing during the 1974 Six Hours of The Glen
endurance race. Celebrated drivers Peter Gregg and Hurley Haywood drove
the Martini and Ross sponsored Porsche 911 Carrera RSR Turbo racecar to
victory the first time it competed on American soil. This was not the
first time that Porsche was victorious at The Glen and would certainly
not be the last. Bob Holbert claimed Porsche's first victory at Watkins
Glen International in The Queen Catharine Cup race in 1957. Legendary
drivers such as Roger Penske, Derek Bell, Peter Gregg and Hurley Haywood
have been responsible for many of the Porsche wins between its first and
most recent victory in the 2006 Sahlen's Six Hours of The Glen. Success
at the historical track has helped solidify Porsche as one of the most
successful and respected competitors in road racing today. The new
Porsche 911 turbo goes on sale in North American on Saturday, June 24th.

Tickets for the remaining 2006 race season at The Glen are
still available. Don't miss the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series and Busch
Series races this August 11-13. The Zippo 200 returns for a second time
with the cars and stars of the NEXTEL Cup Series and the Crown Royal 200
Rolex Sports Car Series on Friday. Tickets can be obtained by calling
866-461-RACE, by stopping by The Shop, located at 2 North Franklin
Street in downtown Watkins Glen, NY or at the WGI ticket office located
on the old Bronson Hill Road off of County Rte. 16.
