BimmerWorld Pre Race Report - Infineon Raceway
BimmerWorld A Tour de Force With A Four Car Campaign At Infineon
Matt Richmond, in the house!
Returning to the scene of what had to be one of the most topsy-turvy
starts in SCCA Pro Racing SPEED World Challenge Tour Car history,
BimmerWorld racing heads to Infineon Raceway with a four car effort
for Round Four of the Touring Car series championship.
Re-joing the team for his first race of the season, Matt Richmond
will be back in the #37 BimmerWorld BMW.
"I'm really looking forward to being back and being part of the
team," said Richmond. "Infineon brings back lots of memories for me.
There's no pressure for me so my goal is, as always, to have fun.
Though, I will say, the time out of the car has made me really hungry."
BimmerWorld owner, James Clay, will be in his new #36 BimmerWorld E90
BMW for the first time.
"It is great to have Matt Richmond back with us for this race,"
noted Clay. "He and I ran nose to tail in 4th and 5th last year for
most of the race, so I have good expectations this year."
"I am in my E90 for the first time this weekend," Clay continued. "We
have been doing a lot of work and testing on the new E90 cars since
Ohio and they are getting better every time out."
Looking back, Clay reflected on the team's history at Infineon.
"Sonoma has been full of ups and downs for our team in the past,"
said Clay. "But when everything is going well, the results are good.
In 2003 I went off in turn 10, picked up a sign that covered my front
bumper, and had to stop to get it removed, still managing a 10th
place finish. In 2004, Matt, Seth, and I wiped out all three cars in
a single incident at the start."
Seth Thomas will be back in the BimmerWorld #38 E90 BMW.
"I am really excited about being at Infineon this weekend," said
Seth. "Being there with the big crowds and the Nextel Cup series will
help to elevate the Touring car series and draw more attention to the
great racing."
"Our E90 is going to be better at this track," said a confident
Thomas. "Infineon really suits the rear wheel drive BMWs. And with
the improvements we've made to the car since Mid-Ohio we'll
definitely be faster in qualifying and the race."
"Having Matt back on the team at one of The BimmerWorld Boys'
favorite tracks is going to be a huge asset to the team," Seth
continued. "He always helps us to elevate our team both at the track
and away from it. This is going to be an exciting weekend for
BimmerWorld!"
Rounding out the team, Paul Goldman returns to the #39 BimmerWorld
E46 BMW.
I am excited to be back driving the BimmerWorld #39 E46 car," said an
eager Goldman. "This is my home track and I have been fortunate to
have raced here many times. To win at Infineon, you need good
starting position, patience and consistency. This weekend's
configuration is both technical and fast. It should provide
exceptional racing."
"The BimmerWorld Team has worked hard and are prepared," noted
Goldman. "Over the past few years they have increased their knowledge
anexperience at Infineon, so I expect we'll be able make the most of
our opportunities when they occur."
Saturday's 40 minute race will start at 3:30PM PST. It will be
broadcast tape delayed on SPEED Channel Saturday, July 8, 3PM EST.
