General Physics Corporation Completes Construction of Chevron Hydrogen Energy Station at AC Transit
ELKRIDGE, Md.--June 22, 2006--General Physics Corporation (GP), a subsidiary of GP Strategies Corporation , recently completed the design and construction of a hydrogen energy station for Chevron Hydrogen Company (CHC), a division of Chevron Corporation. The station was constructed at the Alameda-Contra Costa (AC) Transit Bus Fueling and Maintenance Facility in Oakland, California. The station provides hydrogen for a small fleet of fuel cell demonstration buses and passenger cars powered by UTC Power fuel cells and operated by AC Transit. This station is part of AC Transit's groundbreaking HyRoad hydrogen fuel cell demonstration program which is considered the most comprehensive hydrogen fuel cell demonstration in North America. The station features many technology achievements such as an integrated, on-site system for producing hydrogen from natural gas, then purifying, compressing and storing it for use as a vehicle fuel. Up to 150 KG of hydrogen can be dispensed from this station daily, enough to fuel three fuel cell buses and ten fuel cell vehicles.
GP was awarded the construction contract through a competitive bid process. GP constructed all site improvements including a hydrogen production and storage building, two fuel dispenser islands with canopies, and an electrical/control room building. GP also installed hydrogen generation, storage, and dispensing equipment provided by CHC. The construction was completed in five months.
