*Anderson looks to St. Louis
for the car and driver to be at the peek of performance*
MADISON, Ill. (June 21, 2006) -- Greg Anderson, driver of the KB Racing
LLC-owned, Summit Racing Equipment-backed Pontiac GTO, is the NHRA
POWERade Pro Stock point leader entering this weekend's 10th annual NHRA
O'Reilly Midwest Nationals, but the three-time and reigning champ is not
happy with his performance or his car.
After last weekend's race in Englishtown, N.J., Anderson had the
following thoughts: "We need to improve driver and car and make them
both faster. (At Englishtown) I was a tick late off the light; the car
was a tick off and in NHRA POWERade Pro Stock right now that usually
results in a loss. I didn't have a lot of luck going for me but I should
know that you have to create your own luck. I'm not doing that right now
and I have to find a way to do that if we want to win that fourth
championship.
"There are definitely some things we need to work on," reflected
Anderson. "We're lacking a little bit of consistency, without a doubt,
and the car's not making any spectacular runs, and it's not making two
runs in a row, to be honest with you.
"At the same time, the bottom line, I'm not getting it done on the
starting line. I don't know how many races in a row I've gotten beat
running quicker than the guy in the other lane - that can't happen. I
can't point the blame at anybody. I haven't been driving as good as I
need to drive, and the car hasn't been bailing me out like it has in the
past. I'm the first screw up, but we have to fix them both if we want to
win again."
Anderson now looks to St. Louis and Gateway International Raceway, the
site of this weekend's event, to turnaround what he considers a
substandard season.
"It's usually hot to very hot anytime we are in St. Louis," said
Anderson, as he prepared for the O'Reilly Midwest Nationals. "Our hot
weather set up seems to suit the car fine, now the driver just has to do
his part. We are not doing as well as we would like this season and
need to establish in St. Louis that we are the car to beat during the
hot summer months. It's going to be a long, hot summer and we have to
do everything right from here on out if we want to win a fourth NHRA
POWERade championship for Ken Black, Summit Racing Equipment and Pontiac."
Anderson and his teammate, Jason Line, currently sit atop the NHRA
POWERade Pro Stock point standings heading into qualifying for the NHRA
O'Reilly Midwest Nationals. Anderson leads the way with 763 points,
while Line is No. 2 with 726 points. Only 124 points separate No. 1
from No. 5.
Qualifying and eliminations for this event are run in the late afternoon
on into the evening. Qualifying for Anderson and his KB Racing
LLC/Summit Racing Equipment Pro Stock Pontiac GTO begins with two Pro
Stock sessions on Friday, June 23, scheduled for 5 and 8 p.m. and
concludes with two additional Pro Stock sessions on Saturday, June 24,
at 2 and 7 p.m. The Duluth, Minn.-native, North Carolina-transplant
then begins his quest for the O'Reilly Midwest Nationals Pro Stock title
on Sunday, June 25, with eliminations for all professional classes
beginning at 3 p.m. *All times are local St. Louis time (CT) and
