San Jose City Council To Auto Dealers: Please Please Stay Just A Little Bit Longer
Washington DC June 21, 2006; The AIADA newsletter reported that last week, the City Council of San Jose, California voted unanimously to spend $135,000 to hire an urban designer and financial analyst to keep auto dealers in San Jose.
About 10 percent of San Jose's sales tax revenue comes from new car sales, and the city has been losing revenue from dealerships leaving the area, according to Paul Krutko, director of the office of economic development.
According to the San Jose Mercury, the proposal "also includes creating a committee to help develop the work plan for the Stevens Creek Auto Row. The committee would include auto dealers, residents and other business owners."
City Councilman Ken Yeager said, "We haven't in the past really focused on our auto dealerships, which we need to do given how much they contribute to the city.''
