U.S. House Committee OKs Ethanol Bill
Washington DC June 21, 2006; The AIADA newsletter reports that The House Energy and Commerce Committee approved a bill yesterday which uses fuel economy fines to pay for installation of ethanol pumps at filling stations, according to Automotive News magazine.
The bill, along with other legislation relating to fuel prices and supply, are expected to come to a vote before the July 4 recess. According to the author of the legislation, Rep. Mike Rogers (R-MI-8), the bill funds $30,000 grants to independent stations rather than oil companies, and could double the number of E85 pumps in a year. Other bills approved yesterday by the committee included; legislation creating a program to educate consumers on how to use less fuel, and a bill that would provide consumers with information on fuel-saving tires.
