Bill Auberlen - 300th race
Bill Auberlen hopes to achieve two milestones this weekend - his 300th
professional auto race start and his 170th start in a BMW. He will compete
in two races at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio, driving the
No. 30 Sigalsport BMW-powered Riley Mk XI in the June 24 Rolex Sports Car
Series race (his 300th pro race) and the No. 96 Turner Motorsport BMW M3 in
the Grand-Am Cup race on June 25 (his 170th race in a BMW).
Auberlen, of Redondo Beach, Calif., has collected 70 wins and 127 podium
finishes en route to six professional auto-racing championships. He has
earned 53 pole positions, posted 61 fastest race laps and set 101 series and
track records.
"It's amazing to have had a career that's allowed me to race so many great
race cars and now be on my 300th race; it's like a mountain. To be able to
do as much of what I do at something I love as much as I do is a dream come
true," he said. "170 in a BMW! To have been with the factory for 11 years is
very unusual. It doesn't happen that often that such a perfect fit is formed
and lasts as long as it has. I'm thankful to everybody at BMW for letting me
be part of it."
