The Man who Invented the Toll Pass Cover sees a Rapidly Growing Market
Red Bank, NJ - - 20, 2006 - - - The toll pass transponders that are mounted on car windshields, allowing them to pass through tollbooths without stopping are a time saving convenience. They also cut back on pollution and reduce traffic congestion. There is one major drawback, they are ugly.
Four years ago, Owen Burns invented a cover that makes the toll transponder much easier on the eyes. Today, the market has skyrocketed. There are an estimated 30 million transponders in the US. The number of transponders is growing at an estimated 20% annually. In the next 10 years, it is likely every state will have toll roads. Transponders are also becoming popular for neighborhood guard gates, parking garages and drive-thru restaurants.
Various parts of the country have different toll passes. Florida has the SunPass, Texas has the Toll Tag, Illinois has the I-Pass and California has the FastTrack. The greatest concentration is E-Zpass+AK4- primarily in the Northeast with over 15 million transponders in use. Every state refers to the transponder as a +IBw-toll pass+IB0-.
The Highway Image pass cover is safe, reliable and is very easy to install. The front of the cover is a clear laminate that pulls off and sticks to the inside of the windshield. The back has a Velcro+AK4--type adhesive that the transponder mounts with. The cover will affix squarely to any windshield once the liner is pealed off similar to a sticker but it is most definitely NOT a sticker. The Highway Image pass cover is a piece of technology made of a material that does not interfere with the reading of the transponder. It has been tested by toll pass manufacturers and reviewed by the Federal Highway Safety Administration.
The tag covers come in a variety of different designs. Popular designs include college and professional sport team logos, patriotic themes such as the American flag and the Marines and icons such as the peace sign and a happy face. Custom tag covers can be created for individuals, schools, youth teams, fund-raisers, political campaigns and business fleets. Many limousine and sales/distribution based companies are branding their fleet+IBk-s toll pass with their company logo as their own bill board. Prices range from $9.99 to $19.99 with discounts on quantities. Each tag cover is fade resistant and will stand up to ultra-violet rays.
Several DOT+IBk-s have told Mr. Burns that the tag cover increase safety and could save them +IBw-millions of dollars+IB0- in processing fines if people were given a reason to keep their tag in the windshield. Drivers tend to hold the tag in the windshield as they pass through the toll since they don+IBk-t like the way it looks on their car. As a result, the tag is often misread and triggers a fine. Also, fumbling around with the transponder can distract the driver and cause an accident.
