RINGERS GLOVES RACING ROUND-UP
Moorpark, Calif. - (June 20, 2006) The NHRA straight liners visited Old
Bridge Township Raceway Park over the weekend for the K&N Filters NHRA
SuperNationals presented by Strauss Discount Auto, their second stop on a three-week
straight campaign.
The Ringers supporting team of Miller Lite/Snake Racing and driver Larry
Dixon’s Father’s Day winning streak was broken in Top Fuel by one Hot Rod
Fuller.
Dixon had won five consecutive Father’s Day wins, until Sunday when Fuller
outlasted Dixon’s tire-smoking dragster 4.692/314.24 mph to 4.825/299.73 mph.
In Funny Car, Ringers supporting racer Ron Capps took on fellow Schumacher
Racing teammate Gary Scelzi. Capps beat Scelzi off the line, but his holeshot
almost didn’t hold up with his teammate making a hard charge down the track.
In the end, Capps’ holeshot did hold up and he beat Scelzi 5.025/299.46 to
5.012/301.81 mph.
Capps sits out in front of the Funny Car point standing with a 106-point
lead heading into St. Louis this weekend.
KB Racing’s Jason Line has won at this track twice before, but this year was
a little different as he picked up his first Father’s Day win as an actual
father.
Line beat out a recently hot and hard-charging Dave Connolly 6.729/205.98
mph to Connolly’s 6.739/206.45 mph pass.
Matt Smith was finally awarded his first professional win in Pro Stock
Motorcycle on Sunday. After the timing mishap at the Mac Tools U.S. Nationals at
Indy last year, Smith crossed the finish line over Karen Stoffer 7.111/185.38
mph to her 7.234/186.12 mph run.
Smith is the son of Pro Stock racer Rickie Smith, who was at the top end of
the track waiting to congratulate his son.
NHRA heads to the Gateway to the West this weekend for the O’Reilly NHRA
Midwest Nationals presented by Castrol at Gateway International Raceway in
Madison, Ill., just outside of St. Louis.
NASCAR Nextel Cup Series – 3M Performance 400 presented by Post-it Picture
Paper – Michigan International Speedway, Brooklyn, Mich.
A rain shortened race in Michigan on Sunday put a damper on the Ringers
team of Penske Racing South team’s hopes of Kurt Busch grabbing another win this
year and of Ryan Newman trying to collect his first of the year.
When the checkers and the caution flew on lap 129, Kasey Kahne was the lucky
one out in front of the field and awarded the win, while Busch sat in ninth
and Newman 15th.
NASCAR Busch Series – Meijer 300 presented by Oreo – Kentucky Speedway,
Sparta, Ky.
Two Ringers racers competed in the Meijer 300 presented by Oreo at Kentucky
Speedway on Saturday.
Both protected with UnderX by Ringers, Paul Menard and Jason Leffler had
completely different outcomes.
Menard collected another top-10 finish of the season, finishing ninth and
maintaining his eighth place in the Busch Series point standings.
Leffler wasn’t as lucky. He was involved in a couple different accidents
during the race, which retired him on lap 46, resulting in a 40th place
finish.
NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series – Con-way Freight 200 – Michigan
International Speedway, Brooklyn, Mich.
Brendan Gaughan was the highest finishing of the Ringers racers and teams in
the Con-way Freight 200 on Saturday afternoon in Michigan.
Gaughan drove his No. 77 Orleans Hotel Dodge home to a 16th place finish.
The Ringers team of Green Light Racing had young driver Chad McCumbee in the
No. 08 truck this weekend and finished two spots behind Gaughan in 18th.
Billy Ballew Motorsports driver Kyle Krisiloff had a rough race weekend.
After getting into the race on owner’s points, Krisiloff finished the race two
laps down in 32nd.
Other Racing
Ringers racer Brad Ellingson picked up two more wins of his season in Club
Formula Continental action at Road America over the weekend.
His wins boosted him to a three-point lead in the TRO Manufacturing
Presents the 2006 Area 5 Championship Series Sponsored by Continental Acura/Audi of
Naperville.
Jonathan Allard picked up his second consecutive Dirt Cup win at Skagit
Speedway in Washington on Saturday night.
He dedicated his win to National Sprint Tour (NST) promoter Fred Brownfield
who was killed on Friday night at Grays Harbor Raceway in Elma, Wash.
Everyone at Ringers Gloves would like to extend our condolences to the
Brownfield family and everyone at Brownfield Promotions. Our thoughts and prayers
are with you during this tragic time.
