USAC STOCKTON FINALE SET FOR JULY 8
HUNT'S ALTAMONT WIN EXTENDS POINT LEAD
The final USAC races in the long history of Stockton (Calif.) 99 Speedway are set for July 8 as the Western Sprints and Western Midgets combine for a "doubleheader" program on the 1/4-mile paved oval. The track has hosted 26 USAC events dating back to 1959 and Western Sprint Car point leader Tony Hunt of Fair Oaks, Calif. won the April Sprint race there. Stockton 99 Speedway has announced it will close at the end of the 2006 racing season.
Hunt will be out to protect his series lead when the Sprints return to Stockton as he holds a 39-point edge over Mike Murgoitio after winning Saturday night's 50-lapper at Altamont Motorsports Park in Tracy, Calif. Hunt led the final three laps of the race after passing Murgoitio on lap 48 in his Thompson Toyota/Paul Oil Company Eagle/Chevy. Murgoitio finished second after leading a dozen laps, while Jeff Gardner, who led the first 35 laps, finished third ahead of Kody Swanson and Brian McClish.
