VANDERGRIFF LOOSES SMOKEFEST IN E-TOWN
Old Bridge, NJ. (June 19, 2006)- Elimination's for the K & N Filters
Supernationals at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park saw very hot and humid
conditions, something they hadn't experienced all weekend in Englishtown.. The UPS
Top Fuel team thought they had it all under control. They were set for their
first round meeting with Hillary Will. The car launched hard as Bob Vandergriff
Jr. hit the throttle, but shortly afterward the car went into tire-smoke,
followed by Will's car striking the tires as well. Both drivers were on and off the
throttle until Will crossed the stripe first, defeating Vandergriff's run of
5.935 with a 5.741 to claim the first round win.
"The car launched right," explained car chief Scott French. "We had
parts failure in the clutch. It shook the tires hard and then went into tire
smoke. Vandergriff did all he could but the car didn't react the way it should
have. We'll get it fixed and be ready to run hard next week in St. Louis."
Vandergriff leaves Englishtown in the 12th position in the POWERade
points standings.
