VANDERGRIFF JUMPS to No. 2 AT E-TOWN



     Old Bridge, N.J., (June 17, 2006)- Although Bob Vandergriff Jr. will be 
spending Fathers Day without his three favorite women, his lovely wife Johnnie 
and daughters Ashley and Sydney, he was happy for the early gift as his UPS 
Top Fuel dragster jumped into the No. 2 position on his first pass Saturday 
afternoon. Vandergriff began day two of qualifying at the K&N Filters 
Supernationals with a 4.546 second blast that proved to be the classes quickest run of 
the day. He later ran a 4.598 in the heat of the day.
     
     "It was pretty awesome going from outside the field and jumping into 2nd
," Vandergriff said sporting a huge smile. "We had a mechanical failure that 
hindered us on both of Friday's runs. The guys did a great job staying out here 
on Friday night finding the problem and then correcting it. It was obvious in 
our performance today.   We then backed it up (the morning run) in the 
afternoon. We just wanted to go down the track to be ready for Sunday. I ended up 
shutting it off a little early because it was spinning the tires and we ran a 
4.59."
     
     With that huge smile still in place, Vandergriff said "I think the guys 
have given me a good hot rod for tomorrow. We're excited about it."

     Vandergriff will meet Hilary Will in the first round.

     


RACE SCHEDULE:
Final elimination's begin at 11 a.m. on Sunday, June 18.

Television Schedule:
ESPN2 and ESPN2 HD will televise three hours of final elimination's coverage 
beginning at 4 p.m. (ET) on Sunday, June 18.
