MASSEY, JONES LEAD FIELDS INTO ELIMINATIONS
RUSK, Texas - In the final rounds of qualifying, Spencer
Massey jumped ahead of Lee Callaway for the top spot in Top Alcohol
Dragster for this weekend's NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series East Texas
State Championships at Cherokee County Motorsports Park. The Fort Worth,
Texas racer posted a lap of 5.368 seconds at 264.39 mph and is followed
by Callaway with a 5.435 second pass at 266.85 mph.
Jimmy Jones held onto the No. 1 spot in Top Alcohol Funny Car running
5.812 seconds at 248.75 mph. Jones is the defending event champion and
is looking for his second win in the NHRA South Central Division in
2006. Oklahoma runner Ron Morrison sits in the second spot with a 5.840
second run at 248.11 mph.
In Comp Eliminator, it was Rodger Brogdon of Tomball, Texas, landing in
the No. 1 spot while
J. Adger Smith of Texarkana, Ark., leads the Super Stock field.
Kent LePorte of New Iberia, La., leads the remainder of the No. 1
qualifiers sitting on top of the Stock field, Ben Brown is No. 1 in
Sportsman Motorcycle presented by Harley Davidson, Allen Firestone leads
the Reher-Morrison Top Sportsman class, and Mike Manners out ran the TCI
Comp Cams Top Dragster class.
Racing continues Sunday at 8 a.m. with round one of Top Alcohol Dragster
and Top Alcohol Funny Car set for noon. Gates open at 7 p.m. Tickets
are $20. Cherokee County Motorsports Park is located at 1157 CR 2404 in
Rusk, approximately 40 miles south of Tyler, Texas. From 343 Loop, take
the 725/241 exit. Take 241 south to County Road 2404. For more
