Four New Faces in SSP Victory Lane on Friday Night
Newberrytown, PA (June 16, 2006) – It was once again a night of new faces in
victory lane on Friday night at the Susquehanna Speedway Park with four
names added to the list of 2006 feature event winners. Lanny Hake picked up a
popular feature win in the 20-lap Trail Motors Super Sportsman event with Larry
Baer visiting victory lane after the 20-lap Late Model event. Eric Walker
picked up his first win of the year in the 20-lap Street Stock feature event.
Jeff Svendsen won the Speedway Auto Sales Mini Van Construction race.
Lanny Hake from Dover jumped out to an early lead over Aaron Eichelberger
in the 20 lap Trail Motor Super Sportsman feature. By lap nine, Russ Mitten
moved from sixth into the runner-up position and began to challenge Hake for
the lead. However, as Mitten began to make his move, Dave Calaman joined the
battle and exchanged places back and forth with Mitten towards the end of the
race. This battle allowed Hake to extend his lead. Once Calaman gained
control of second place, he set his sights on the leader. Coming to the
finish, Hake won by less than two car lengths over Calaman with Mitten finishing
third. Jim Shuttlesworth finished fourth after starting in the 20th spot.
Ryan Rupp rounded out the top five. Hake and Mitten won the qualifying heat
races.
In Late Model action, Randy Christine Jr. jumped out to the early lead from
the pole position. Rocky Magaro inherited the lead on lap two from
Christine and set the pace for through lap 15. Larry Baer charged past Magaro on
lap 16. Baer started tenth and steadily maneuvered his way through traffic to
take the lead. Once in the lead, Baer never looked back. Carl Billet
finished a strong second place by coming all the way from a twelfth place starting
spot. Magaro finished a solid third place with Josh Kimmel and Chuck
Yingling finishing fourth and fifth. Baer also moved into the point lead in a very
tight and competitive SSP Late Model Championship series. Larry Baer, Randy
Christine and Tim Fedder won the heat races and Scott McCann Jr. won the
consolation event.
Eric Walker became the sixth different winner in as many races in the highly
competitive Street Stock Division. Once again a blanket could be thrown
over the top four drivers for many laps of the feature event. Walker was able
to led all twenty laps from his outside front row starting position, however
it was not as easy as it sounds. Scott Thunberg challenged but had to settle
for second. Brian Hauenstein, Sam Leonard Jr., and Gary Johnston completed
the top five. Heat winners were Chad Millikin and Eric Walker.
In the 10-lap Speedway Auto Sales Mini Van Construction race, Jeff Svendsen
picked up his first career Mini Van win. Steve Hitz, Dave Olsen, Brandon Ort
and Butch Richcreek finished second through fifth respectively.
