BLOOMINGTON SPEEDWAY

!!! CHRISTIAN TAKES SEASON'S FIRST !!!

JEFF BLAND & WINSTON HOWE ALSO TAKE FIRST WIN OF THE SEASON

BLOOMINGTON, IN (June 16, 2006) - If you weren't on the hillside at Bloomington Speedway last night you passed up one of the best evenings of the year. The weather was beautiful and the racing was, as it always is, the best you'll find anywhere. If you weren't at Bloomington Speedway last night, plan now to be with us next Friday night.

SPRINT CARS -

The sprint car wars at Bloomington Speedway moved back toward normal last night. After being forced to miss the Sheldon Kinser Memorial last weekend, Dickie Gaines just couldn't stand to be out of action any longer. Car owner Danny Roberts and Crew Chief Daryl Tate had the car at the track early; and, about time for hot laps, Gaines strolled into the pits and started getting ready for battle. They had just bought a new motor from Steve Kinser; and they were ready for battle.

There was a new driver making his first appearance on the red clay. Matthew Goodnight of Winchester, Ind. traveled a good distance to race with us. He made a few appearance last season; but he is really just getting a start as a sprint car pilot. He ran four years in Baby Grand stock cars; and, before that, he spent four years in micro midgets. Although Goodnight may have been disappointed by his performance, he got some laps and he left the pits with a race car that would roll back onto the trailer. A lot of veteran race car drivers would tell Goodnight that it is possible to do far worse than that.

John Memmer of Evansville was back for the second year in a row. Fifteen year old Memmer had already established himself as a racer; because, prior to moving into sprint cars this season, he ran Legend cars. Last season he was the Indiana champion Legend racer; and he was ranked tenth nationally.

Kent Christian started the evening by winning his heat race with Jon Sciscoe, A.J. Clark, Danny Holtsclaw, and Dakoda Armstrong also racing their way into the feature.

In the second heat Chris Windom started on the outside of the first row and drove to victory followed by Steve Rone, Josh Cunningham, Kenny Carmichael, Jr., and Aric Gentry.

In the final heat Jared Fox beat out Dickie Gaines, Brent Beauchamp, Dave Peperak, and Arin McIntosh.

When the green flag waved to start the "B" feature, Mitch Cunningham took the point. Kevin Briscoe had had trouble in his heat race and had to start tenth in the "B". However, on the fourth lap he took third place; and on the sixth lap he took second. The following lap he passed Cunningham to take the lead that he would hold until the checkered flags waved.

On the redraw Chris Windom and Jon Sciscoe won front row starting positions for the feature event. When the green flag waved to start the feature, Chris Windom jumped into the lead; but Sciscoe was right on his back bumper. Kent Christian had started fifth; and on the fourth lap he was running third. Windom, Sciscoe, and Christian ran in that order until lap15 when Christian passed Holtsclaw to take second. It seemed as if Windom was destined to score his first feature win; however, on the 23rd lap, Christian used his many years of experience on the red clay to find his way past Windom. Christian then went on to lead the way to the checkered flags. Sciscoe, Holtsclaw and Briscoe rounded out the top five.

Gaines started fourth; however, early in the race, he slipped over the cushion, did two three sixties and charged off after the field. However, he had gone from fourth to last. He was able to work his way back up to a ninth place finish.

0'NEAL WOOD PRODUCTS MODIFIEDS -

In the O'Neal Wood Product modified division, Kent Robinson and Jeff Bland, Jr. pulled the pills that put them on the first row for the start of the feature event. Bland won the drag race into the first turn to take the initial lead. He held off Robinson for the initial eighteen laps. However, Ryan Thomas passed Robinson on the 19th circuit to take second place. Thomas and Bland battled for the balance of the race; but Jeff was not going to be denied. He drove to his first win of the season on the red clay.

Thomas held on to score a second place finish while Robinson, Ray Humphrey and John DeMoss made up the balance of the top five.

In preliminary modified competition, Rod Brickert, Brent Londeree, Bland, and Robinson won the heat races while Shelby Miles won the "B" feature.

Tire & Wheel Center Super Stocks:

Winston Howe has been running well all season; and everyone knew that he was due to score a feature win. He began his evening by finishing second in his heat race. The redraw gave him a fourth place starting spot in the feature. When the green flag waved to start the feature Marty Cooper spun creating a complete restart. That gave Tire & Wheel Center super stock points leader Jeremy Hines the pole starting position for the restart.

Hines jumped into the lead; and it looked like Jeremy was headed for another feature win. Winston Howe was running second; however, before he could get very involved in battling with Hines, he found himself in a real battle with Chris Hillman for second. Of course, that was just fine with Jeremy. On the 16th circuit, Hines' car broke and he rolled into the infield. About the same time Chris Hillman dropped from the fray. The attrition left Howe in the lead; but former Tire & Wheel Center super stock champion Greg Kendall was in hot pursuit. Howe managed out-duel Kendall for the feature win. Kendall had to settle for second. Defending Tire & Wheel Center super stock champion Danny Harris finished third ahead of Troy Clark and Ben DuBois.

In preliminary super stock action, Marty Cooper and Jeremy Hines won the heat races.
