Nissan Design America Hosts 2006 ``Eve of Eyes''

FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich.--June 16, 2006--Nissan Design America (NDA) will open the doors of its Farmington Hills design studio for the 2006 "Eve of Eyes," an exclusive reception for automotive design professionals benefiting the Detroit Institute of Ophthalmology (DIO). This year marks the first time the annual event will be held at Nissan's private design studio in Farmington Hills.

"Eve of Eyes" is the official kick off gala for "Eyes on Design," a weekend long celebration of automotive design. At the evening reception, designers from Detroit area OEM's will have an opportunity to showcase their classic and specialty vehicles as well as enjoy concept and production vehicle displays, including Nissan's AZEAL Coupe Concept, the first concept car born out of the Farmington Hills studio.

"Good design cannot be appreciated without strong, healthy vision. Because of Nissan's commitment to design, we are happy to support the DIO's worthy efforts, host Eve of Eyes in our studio and celebrate a creative, spirited design presence in Detroit," said Bruce Campbell, Vice President, Nissan Design America.

The 50,000 square foot plus Farmington Hills studio works in conjunction with Nissan's San Diego studio to execute full-scale production design and exploratory design work. Both studios share three core design values: Humanistic (caring for and enriching people), Design Excellence (the quest to create global leading design) and Inclusiveness (to involve and integrate everyone throughout the entire process).

Several features make the NDA Farmington Hills studio unique, including The Egg, a 15,000-square-foot outdoor viewing courtyard and a clay modeling bedplate, which is the longest in the automotive industry. The studio also houses a Zimmerman Mill, a fully automated mill that can translate a design into a full-scale model with the utmost precision.

"Eve of Eyes" will also feature musical entertainment, interactive design displays and a silent auction raising funds for the DIO. There will also be a special "Art of Design" exhibit presenting a brief evolution of studio design, techniques and styles.
