Visiprise Customer Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Recognized as a 2006 Progressive Manufacturer
ATLANTA, June 15 -- Visiprise, Inc., a leader in integrated manufacturing operations solutions, today announced its customer Lockheed Martin was awarded the 2006 Progressive Manufacturing Award for its innovative, Visiprise-powered manufacturing processes used in the production of the joint strike fighter.
The award, given by leading manufacturing-focused business and technology publication Managing Automation, was presented to only eight manufacturing companies who have transformed into progressive manufacturers by mastering at least one of the new set of core competencies or disciplines. Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Company was recognized for Data & Integration Mastery.
In the June 2006 issue of Managing Automation, Editor-in-Chief David Brousell extols the Progressive Manufacturing Award winners as those companies that "are not content with the status quo," calling the recipients of this distinction companies that are "hell-bent on innovating in everything they make and everything they do."
The award was given to Lockheed Martin Aeronautics based on the company's use of Visiprise's solutions in the production of the F-35, the next- generation joint strike fighter. Lockheed Martin Aeronautics developed the Electronic Work Instructions (EWI) project as a competitive measure of product quality, and business processes and infrastructure for the design and manufacture of the aircraft.
The EWI project consisted of two components, the Visiprise Computer Aided Process Planning (CAPP) and Visiprise Shop Floor Management, part of Visiprise's integrated manufacturing operations solution. Specifically, Lockheed Martin Aeronautics' goals for EWI were to improve data integrity, reduce costs of data generation, increase delivery access and use, enhance user-friendliness on the shop floor, and reduce system support costs.
"Visiprise has always strived to provide our customers with reliable manufacturing solutions that allow them to increase revenue and decrease overall cost and production time," said Sean McCloskey, president and CEO of Visiprise. "Our work with the EWI project showcases our ability to deliver on these tenets. Specifically, we were able to shorten the time it took to update project documents throughout the system from seven days to having the changes occur in real-time."
Companies or divisions/subsidiaries of companies based anywhere in the world were eligible to submit nominations for the Progressive Manufacturing Awards. A panel of Managing Automation editors and manufacturing experts judged the entries and announced the recipients at the Managing Automation Progressive Manufacturing Summit Gala Awards Dinner in Las Vegas.
