Stephenson Looks to Double Up in Englishtown
Coming off last weekend's exciting win in Chicago, Tony Stephenson and
his GM Performance Parts Racing team will hope to double their winnings
by taking home the Competition Eliminator title at the NHRA
Supernationals in Englishtown, NJ. In addition to arriving at Old
Bridge Township Raceway Park with a extra boost in confidence, their
success will provide additional benefits for the Stephenson crew.
For example, with only a few short days between the end of eliminations
in Illinois and the first qualifying session in the Garden State, teams
will have little time to make repair or major changes to their race
cars. After making five solid runs in eliminations, the team knows
their sleek, star-spangled GTO will be ready to take on the legendary
Raceway Park quarter-mile.
"Even though our season got off to a late start, we're looking forward
to the rest of the year. We're coming off a great weekend in Chicago,
where we were able to prevail against some great drivers I felt
privileged to be competing against. We've also gotten this new Don
Ness-built GM Performance Parts Pontiac GTO figured out, and we know
what it wants, so we feel good heading to New Jersey for this weekend's
race.
"I've only raced in a national event in Englishtown one time before,
which was two years ago, and we were the runner-up, so we're looking
forward to going back this year and hopefully win one more round. Of
course, there are going to be some very fast cars and good drivers just
like there were in Chicago.
"Raceway Park is one of the oldest tracks we race on, and I would love
to get a win there. The place is full of history, and we would
certainly like to be a part of it."
