Ahoy, Mates! Support the Alexandria American Red Cross With GEICO at the 2006 Mayor's Cup Regatta

ALEXANDRIA, Va., June 14 -- Saturday's Waterfront Festival in Alexandria, will feature the 2006 Alexandria Mayor's Cup Sailing Regatta at the Dangerfield Island Sailing Club. Saturday's regatta, which starts at 11 a.m., completes a four weekend race series, and Alexandria Mayor Bill Euille will present the trophy to the winning sailor after the race. The Waterfront Festival benefits the community disaster preparedness and safety education programs of the Alexandria Chapter of the American Red Cross.

Patrick Muldoon of the Dangerfield Island Sailing Club said, "The Dangerfield Island Sailing Club is grateful for the support and recognition from GEICO. GEICO's support for the Mayor's Cup Regatta has allowed our sailing community to nurture a fantastic sailing event that we hope will continue to grow and attract sailors and spectators from across the region. This is another example of GEICO being a great corporate citizen, supporting both the Alexandria Red Cross and the Dangerfield Island Sailing Club's Mayor's Cup. While folks are having fun on shore at the festival, we'll be putting on a good show for them on the river."

Janice Minshall, GEICO assistant vice president and a participant in the regatta, said, "GEICO is so proud to sponsor such a fun event. The Alexandria Mayor's Cup celebrates the maritime heritage of Alexandria's historic seaport and highlights the sailing activities available in the metropolitan area."

After the race, racers and spectators are invited to a cookout and will have a chance to win GEICO giveaways.

The Waterfront Festival is open on Saturday, June 17 from 10 a.m. until 11 p.m. and Sunday, June 18 from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. Admission ranges from $5- 10. There will be amusement rides and ship tours available all weekend. For ticket information and directions to Oronoco Bay Park in Old Town visit the website at http://www.waterfrontfestival.org/.
