Ford Motor Company to be Honored by Boy Scouts as Motorsports Company of the Year

DEARBORN, Mich., June 14, 2006 – Ford Motor Company will be honored as the Motorsports Company of the Year by the Boy Scouts of America’s Cascade Pacific Council during the 17th annual Motorsports Breakfast on Thursday, June 15 in Portland, Ore. The breakfast takes place during festivities surrounding the Grand Prix of Portland, an annual stop for the Bridgestone Presents The Champ Car World Series Powered by Ford.

“It is an honor to be recognized by the Cascade Pacific Council, Boy Scouts of America. I am privileged to accept this award on behalf of Dan Davis, Director of Ford Racing Technology and Ford Racing,” said Jamie Allison, Ford Racing Performance Group Manager. “It’s a great honor for us to be recognized by an organization that has such an impact on the young people of the Portland area and across the country.”

Ron Bennett, member of the Motorsports Breakfast Steering Committee, presented the award to Ford Motor Company.

“There are many similarities between Ford Motor Company and the Boy Scouts,” said Allison. “The perfect example is the Pinewood Derby. We both exercise imaginations and learn about the trials and tribulations of building the perfect race car. From designing the vehicle, placing the weights and even developing paint schemes, the Scouts prepare for their races in much the same way our engineers test and develop our race cars.”

The Boy Scouts Motorsports Breakfast is the Cascade Pacific Council’s second largest annual fundraiser, raising more than $30,000 each year. Since the inception of the breakfast seventeen years ago, more than 700,000 inner-city and at-risk youth have been given the opportunity to participate in the Scouting program, an opportunity they otherwise could not afford.

Ford Motor Company is Official Power and Pace Car of the Champ Car World Series, one of the world’s premier open-wheel racing series.
