Hardcore Motorsports Perseveres In Pocono
Hardcore Motorsports Perseveres In Pocono
LONG POND, Pa. (June 13, 2006) - - If anyone knew what Hardcore
Motorsports went through last weekend at Pocono International Raceway, they realized
their solid top-twenty finish was a small victory for them.
The team had announced an affiliation with veteran driver Mike Harmon
earlier in the week to guide the Michigan-based team in a new and positive
direction. Unloading what was expected to be a fast and stout racecar, the car was
never able to show it’s full potential as fluids seeped underneath the No. 08
machine causing driver Jason Hedlesky to lose control of his car and hit the
wall.
Obviously, not the way that any team would like to begin their weekend, but
with their “Hardcore Never Give Up?? attitude in place, the team quickly with
the aid of Harmon began preparation of their backup car for Saturday’s race.
Hardcore Motorsports’ back up machine was Mike Harmon’s secondary car for
Pocono. Hardcore had another car sitting in their hauler, but they wanted to
save it for this week’s important race at Michigan. With the team using Harmon’
s car, Hardcore returned the favor when the No. 38 Bert Oostlander Racing
Chevrolet lost a motor in the first practice session. Hardcore donated their
engine from their wrecked machine to the No. 38 team showing the true meaning
of team work.
It was thanks to the Joe Rhyne motor that Harmon was able to compete
competitively including running in the top-five before overheating gremlins ruined
his race and forced an unsatisfying 31st place finish.
The team worked fiercely preparing the backup No. 08 Chevrolet Monte Carlo.
Even though the team was unable to make a qualifying attempt, they would
start the ARCA 200 from the 35th position thanks to their 2006 ARCA RE/MAX Series
owner points.
With no practice time in their back-up car, the team was looking at one
goal, finish the race.
Starting deep in the field, Hedlesky had a long way to go to march up
through the field with 80 laps to do so. At the start of the race, Hedlesky was
conservative, minded his own business gathering seat time in the No. 08 to pick
up the valuable and precious points for the season-end championship chase.
Though never a major factor for the caution-filled event, Hedlesky played
his cards right, overcoming brakes issues and collecting a quiet but
respectable 19th place finish completing 86 of the 88 extended markers.
In addition to running the full ARCA RE/MAX Series schedule, Hardcore
Motorsports also backs ARCA’s Safety Initiative Program. The Hardcore Motorsports
Safety Initiative Program is devoted to keeping the drivers, crews and fans
safe at all the ARCA RE/MAX Series in 2006 and beyond. The program has already
made a massive difference thus far with the season still young with further
improvements to be made later this season.
Next up for Hardcore Motorsports and the rest of the ARCA RE/MAX Series is
the Hantz Group 200, the first of two events from Michigan International
Speedway this season. It’s a huge race for the entire team as they are all based
from the Great Lakes state and look to put their No. 08 on top in Friday’s
race.
