Waukesha Unveils VHP(R) Enhancements That Extend Engine Uptime
CALGARY--June 13, 2006--Waukesha Engine is unveiling a series of performance enhancements for its 12-cylinder VHP(R) engines that will deliver more cost-effective operation in gas compression applications.Because every hour that can be saved while still performing essential engine maintenance means added revenue for the producer, Waukesha established an objective of maximizing engine uptime, identifying the changes that would do the most to lengthen maintenance intervals and make the engine easier to service, said Randy Rothman, compression marketing manager for Waukesha Engine. The result is a package of enhancements called the Extender Series, which will be standard on all turbo-charged 12-cylinder VHP engines.
Many of the Extender Series features are designed to support an extended oil change interval of 3500 hours. Rothman said that this extended oil change interval reduces downtime for routine oil changes by 50 to 70 percent compared to competitors' engines and consequently increases revenue generation potential by as much as $346,000 compared to competitive engines and depending upon the specific compression application. Among the key features of the new VHP Extender package are:
-- A new, deep sump oil pan with a capacity of 178 gallons, double the capacity typical for an engine of that size, which helps extend the life of the oil.
-- A more advanced oil filtration system that includes four new micro fiberglass filter elements that will keep oil cleaner longer. The new filter system is designed for longer service to match the extended 3500-hour oil change interval.
-- A new air cleaner design for easy servicing without tools and a new long-life air filter with a superior 99.9 percent efficiency and a 70 percent greater capacity than the previous design.
-- A more efficient closed crankcase breather system that eliminates particulate matter emissions. A built-in self-regulating valve eliminates the need for adjustments during maintenance.
-- An auxiliary water pump belt tensioner that eliminates the need to check these belts during routine maintenance.
-- A new, simplified wiring harness that is easier to troubleshoot and maintain.
Also incorporated in the VHP Extender Series are improvements that make it easier to package the engine with a compressor, such as the new single wiring harness and a reduced number of connection points.
VHP Extender Series models are expected to begin shipping in February of 2007.
