Tim Sauter 24th in Music City

Tim Sauter 24th in Music City
June 10th, Nashville SuperSpeedway. The temperature in the Music City
was in the mid-nineties during the day and was still 88 when the
green flag fell on the Federated Autoparts 300 just after 7:00pm.
After 300 miles of hard racing Tim Sauter piloted his Lester
Buildings Chevy to a 24th place finish behind race winner Carl Edwards.

Starting from the 30th position, Sauter quickly showed his Ricky
Pearson-tuned Chevy was better in race trim than it was when the team
qualified under the heat of the Nashville sun. The Wisconsin driver
quickly began to move through the field. By lap 11 when the second
caution flew for a spin by Mark McFarland and his brother Jay, Tim
was up to 24th. He notified the crew he was a just a little tight,
and the water temp was pushing 240. Back under green, Sauter
continued his march towards the front moving up to 18th by the 30th
circuit.

Sauter radioed the crew that the water temp had exceeded 250 degrees
when the caution flew on lap 33, so Pearson brought him in to remove
tape from the grill, a minor chassis adjustment and four tires. The
silver & black #36 emerged from pit road in 26th position. The
removal of tape dropped the water temp to 235 where it would stay the
rest of the night.

After a caution on lap 47 for a crash by Steadman Marlin, Tim was in
the 22nd position. In a bold move following the restart, Tim shot the
#36 to the outside, passed two cars and emerged on the backstretch in
20th position. After about 20 laps the car got tight in the corners
and Tim started to slowly drift backwards.

Lining-up 22nd following a caution on lap 98, Tim was the second car
one lap down. He quickly passed McFarland and moved into the “lucky
dog” position. The veteran driver had a strong run on the third set
of tires and ran competitively between the seventh and eighth place
cars. The team was rewarded when the caution flew on lap 126 putting
the Lester Buildings car back on the lead lap. Tim restarted in 21st
position and moved up to 18th where he would stay until a caution on
lap 172.

Tim would line-up 23rd following the caution, but the car was tight
during the entire run. Edwards lapped the #36 with ten laps to go,
and the night ended with a 24th place finish.

Sitting in the team hauler shortly after the race following two and a
half hours inside a 130-degree racecar, Sauter had the opportunity to
relax and cool down. “The car was really good early in the race and
we moved steadily forward. We were tight the second set and I really
had to work to hold our track position,” he explained. “Ricky made
some good adjustments and were pretty competitive through the middle
the of the race. I thought we could get a lead-lap finish but we just
got too tight that last run to get back into the top twenty.”

“I’m disappointed because we had a better car for most of the race
than our finishing position showed, track position is so critical.
Once you get behind its so hard to get those positions back,” Sauter
added. “On the positive side, the car does not have a scratch, we
plan to run this same car at Kentucky.”

Next Saturday, Tim and the McGill Motorsports team are headed to
Kentucky Speedway outside of Cincinnati, OH for the Meijer 300.
National City will be the primary sponsor of the #36 car for the
event. Tim has two top-20 finishes at the mile and a half speedway.

Affordable primary sponsorship is available on the McGill Motorsports
Chevy Monte Carlo SS for five of the remaining races on the 2006 NBS
schedule including the Winn Dixie 250 at Daytona on June 30th.
