‘Air lock’ regulates Long to 41st in Nashville
Lebanon, Tenn. – Carl Long finished 41st behind the wheel of the #23 LoveFiFi.com Chevrolet on Saturday night in Nashville.
Long qualified 35th for the Federated Auto Parts 300 but a radiator problem surfaced on the parade laps and he was forced to pull the car into the pits before the race began.
The team discovered a pin hole in the radiator after the final practice session and switched to a back-up. However, the system experienced an air lock which caused a rise in pressure that resulted in the cap being blown off the overflow reservoir. They were able to by-pass the reservoir and get back on the tack but by that time Long was already too far behind.
“It’s frustrating because we ran well when we were out there,” said Long. “I had the power to pass the cars in front of me but when you start out six or seven laps down there really isn’t much you can do. We weren’t points racing so we figured it would be best for everyone if we just got out of the way.”
“Carl thought he had a good chance to make some noise out there, but that’s racing” said crew chief Keith Montgomery. “We’ll get the problem fixed and have it ready to go next weekend in Kentucky.”
