JOLIET, Ill. (June 12, 2006) - Cruz Pedregon and his Advance Auto Parts Race
Team tested a new chassis design this past weekend, qualifying fifth in NHRA
POWERade Nitro Funny Car action from the NHRA Nationals at Route 66 Raceway
in Joliet, Ill.

 

"It was a good weekend for the Advance Auto Parts team," Pedregon said.
"The new car is awesome and is better than the old chassis.  We were just a
little too aggressive in the first round, made a little error in judgment
and tried to throw down a low number, and it just didn't work.  However, we
did manage to post my second-fastest time ever (4.689), which is a real
positive for our team.  Sometimes on a really fast race track, you have a
tendency to push the envelope and overlook the race strategy.  We need to
race the race track and not - in football terms - get too "pass happy."  But
we'll be fine now that we've had some experience with this new car, and we
look forward to the upcoming race in Englishtown."  

 

In 2005, Cruz Pedregon and the Advance Auto Parts Race Team finished for the
second consecutive year in the top 10 in points, was #1 qualifier twice and
recorded a career best ET speed of 4.680 seconds at 330.80 mph.
