JOLIET, Ill. (June 11, 2006) – A foul start ended the day for Hillary
Will, driver of the KB Racing LLC-owned, Kalitta Motorsports-managed Top
Fuel dragster, against J.R. Todd in the opening round of eliminations
for the NHRA CARQUEST Auto Parts Nationals.
Will left 23 thousandths of a second too soon and the win light
automatically turned on for Todd. For the record Will ran an elapsed
time of 4.543 seconds at 311.49 mph. Todd tripped the finish line light
in 4.550 seconds.
“You’ve got to experience growing pains to grow,” said Will of her close
encounter with the Christmas tree. “I feel bad for the team. I was
ready. I knew we had a good car today. I tried to make a good leave.
My goal is to always cut a good light. I guess I was overly ready.”
Next up for the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series is the second of three
back-to-back-to-back races, this time at Old Bridge Township Raceway
Park in Englishtown, N.J., when the 37th annual NHRA K&N Filters
Supernationals is contested June 15-18.
ESPN2 will air same-day television coverage of today’s eliminations for
the NHRA CARQUEST Auto Parts Nationals from 5-7 p.m. tonight, Sunday,
June 11. The elimination show repeats early Wednesday morning (June 14)
from 3-5 a.m. *Television times are Eastern Time (ET) and subject to
change at anytime. Check local listings.*
