Corellis Charges to Victory; Harkin and Cruz Get Their First

Saturday June 10, 2006 – By: Rodney Rescott

West Lebanon, NY: Clear skies and a alight breeze brought out the racing
faithful, as Lebanon Valley Speedway got in a full card of racing without
the rain interrupting! Anderson Equipment, Taconic DSL and Pit Stop
Automotive presented the program of all classes including a PureStock Dash
presented by Boomer’s Performance.

The modifieds took to the speedway for their 30 lap feature event of the
night. And not a fan was seated as the action was hot and heavy early in
the event. Paul Gilardi and Lorne Browe brought the field to green, but
Gilardi couldn’t negotiate the first turn bringing out the first of several
cautions throughout the 30 laps feature. Once the green dropped again, it
was Lorne Browe’s #14 taking the helm with Russ Reckner in hot pursuit.
With that battle for the top spot in the spotlight, all eyes were watching
the charge from deep in the field.

The charge to the front was headed by the Mighty Matt Quinn, with Donnie
Corellis, Andy Bachetti, and Kenny Tremont mirroring each other as they made
their way through the field to the front of the class. The Browe Paving #14
just couldn’t shake Reckner’s #34R throughout the first half of the event,
but their battle became overshadowed with the 4 horseman making their
presents known. By half way, you could through a blanket over the top 5 all
vying for that top spot.

But Reckner’s night came to an unexpected end as Quinn’s #20 lost its breaks
entering turn 3. The collision caused both cars to retire early from the
event with just 7 laps remaining. That put the Wild Child, Andy Bachetti
right on the bumper of Browe. As the green flew once more, the battle
ensued, but Bachetti just couldn’t get a good run past the #14 to complete
the pass. This gave Corellis the opportunity he was waiting for, as he made
a dramatic outside to inside slide for life entering the treacherous turn 3,
and threaded the needle. At the exit of the fourth turn, it was all the #21
Rifenberg Construction PMC until the checkers fell.

Corellis captured his first for ’06, followed by Bachetti, Kenny Tremont,
Lorne Browe, and Guy Sheldon rounded out the top 5.

The Sportsman Division was also on tap for their regular 20 lap event. With
nearly a caution free event, the 5th place starter, Ed Harkins made his way
to the front to capture his first of the season as well. Harkins #19 was
followed by Don Miller, Alan Houghtaling, K.C. Goewey, and Frankie Harper
completing the top 5.

The Pro Stocks saw Chris Crews’ struggles all year finally get him into
victory lane. Following Crews across the line was Mike Middleton, Rob
Langevin, Robbie Speed and Paul LaRochelle. The Limited Pro Stocks was
captured by George Miles, his 3rd of the year.

The Pure Stock division was also on tap with over 50 cars in attendance.
Randy Myers captured his first victory for 2006 in Pure Stock#1. Dave
Steibel captured his 2nd of the year in Pure Stock#2. Pure Stock#3 saw the
legendary Pete Wiegand capture his 3rd win of 2006, his 45th of his career!
Pure Stock#4 saw Brian Houghtaling capture his first of the year as well.

The Boomer’s Performance pure Stock Clash was also captured by the #78p of
Pete Wiegand.

DMC Racing Products, and Dougherty Brothers Construction bring the return of
