KJ Will Start Sixth in Chicago
Event: 9th Annual Carquest Auto Parts NHRA Nationals
Day/Date: Saturday, June 10, 2006
Location: Route 66 Raceway, Joliet, IL
For the second straight day, Mother Nature played a major influence on
the qualifying procedure for the Carquest Auto Parts Nationals in
Joliet, IL. After heavy downpours delayed the start of the day's
activities by several hours, constant showers throughout the afternoon
curtailed the professional categories to only three attempts, one less
than the normal amount. In addition, even though the temperatures were
ideal for the "factory hot rods", the lack of rubber on the racetrack
resulted in no changes in the top half of Sunday's starting line-up.
Therefore, Kurt Johnson's 6.664-second, 207.43 mph run from Friday
evening earned the ACDelco Cobalt the sixth starting position for final
eliminations, as he looks for his second career win at Route 66 Raceway.
"I would like to have had that fourth run. I'm not saying that we could
have picked up, but we obviously would have liked another test run,
especially one where you're running at the same time as everyone else.
It usually works out to your benefit whether you learn something or not,
because you can check something off your list of things that work or not
"I'm pretty sure that we have the right set-up in our ACDelco Cobalt
that we think we can win this race. We learned something on that last
run that we will be able to use, so we'll go out there tomorrow and see
if we can use it to our benefit."
