*Anderson, Line earn No. 1 and No. 2 for a chance at $50,000 in King
Demon Crown*
JOLIET, Ill. (June 7, 2006) -- KB Racing LLC drivers, Greg Anderson and
Jason Line, qualified for this year's 22nd running of the NHRA King
Demon Crown, a special event for Pro Stock drivers run in conjunction
with the NHRA CARQUEST Auto Parts Nationals at Route 66 Raceway in
Joliet, Ill.
Anderson, who was born in Duluth, Minn., and now lives in the Charlotte,
N. C. area, secured the No. 1 position of the eight qualified drivers.
His teammate Line, also a Minnesota native, was born in Wright, Minn.,
and now lives in Terrell, N.C., took the No. 2 spot.
Racers accrue points based on their qualifying position at each of the
23 national events preceding the King Demon Crown event. A No. 1
qualifying effort is worth 175 points, dropping 10 points per position
through No. 4, which is worth 145 points. The No. 5 qualifier is awarded
140 points, dropping 5 points per position down to No. 16, which is
worth 85 points. Drivers who do not qualify for an event do not earn
points at that race.
The three-time and defending NHRA POWERade Pro Stock champion Anderson,
who won the King Demon Crown in 2004 and was runner-up in 2003,
collected 10 No. 1s, more than twice the number of any other competitor
in the event this year, earning the top spot. He accumulated 3,740
points.
Line, with four No. 1s during the qualifying span, was runner-up in 2005
earned 3,450 points.
Both Anderson and Line will pull their KB Racing LLC-owned, Summit
Racing Equipment Pontiac GTOs to the starting line at noon on Saturday,
June 10 for the first round of this year's King Demon Crown. In the
opening round, Anderson will face V. Gaines, who earned the No. 8
position; while, Line will square off against Allen Johnson, who
qualified seventh.
The remaining opening round match ups find No. 3 Warren Johnson vs. No.
6 Erica Enders and No. 4 Kurt Johnson vs. No. 5 Richie Stevens, Jr.
The two remaining rounds are scheduled as following: round 2
(semifinals) at 3 p.m. and the final round at 4:25 p.m.
With a total purse of $145,000 and a race payout of $76,000, the winner
of this year's King Demon Crown receives $50,000, while the runner-up
takes home $10,000. The two semifinalists walk away with $3,000 each
and the four fist-round finishers each earn $2,500. Additionally, the
low qualifier at each of the 23 qualifying events earns $3,000 (a total
of $69, 000).
