*Line shines on Route 66 Raceway*
JOLIET, Ill. (June 7, 2006) -- Jason Line, who drives the Summit Racing
Equipment Pontiac for KB Racing LLC, has to be a favorite to win at this
weekend's NHRA CARQUEST Auto Parts Nationals (June 8-11) at Route 66
Raceway in Joliet, Ill.
Line's first national event victory and first No. 1 qualifying award
were both accomplished at the Route 66 Raceway quarter-mile in 2004.
Also in 2004, Line's 208.17 mph run last fall is the fastest ever by a
Pontiac GTO in NHRA Pro Stock competition, again at the Route 66 Raceway
quarter-mile.
Additionally, consider the fact that Line has more national event wins
at this race track than any other Pro Stock driver -- three. Back when
Route 66 Raceway hosted two events annually, Line won twice at the
spring event and once at the fall race. Add to that a runner up at last
year's King Demon Crown, a special event for Pro Stock drivers run in
conjunction with the CARQUEST Auto Parts Nationals and you can see why
Line must be considered a favorite.
Once again this year, Line will be vying for both the King Demon Crown
and the NHRA CARQUEST Auto Parts Nationals titles.
On Saturday, Line vies for the King Demon Crown. The 36-year-old driver
secured the No. 2 position of the eight qualified drivers. The winner of
this year's King Demon Crown receives $50,000, while the runner-up takes
home $10,000.
Racers accrue points based on their qualifying position at each of the
23 national events preceding the King Demon Crown event. A No. 1
qualifying effort is worth 175 points, down to No. 16, which is worth 85
points. Drivers who do not qualify for an event do not earn points at
that race.
On Sunday, once qualified for the CARQUEST Auto Parts Nationals, Line
will have the opportunity to go after the event title.
On Sunday night, when all the results are in the NHRA history books,
hopefully Line will have gathered two wins and a lot of cash for his
weekend at the office.
Entering qualifying for the NHRA CARQUEST Auto Parts Nationals, Line
holds the No. 2 position in the NHRA POWERade Pro Stock point standings
with 559 points. He is just 73 points behind his teammate Greg
Anderson, who is No. 1 in the standings, and 16 points ahead of Jim
Yates in third.
Qualifying for Line and his KB Racing LLC/Summit Racing Equipment Pro
Stock Pontiac GTO begins with two Pro Stock sessions on Friday, June 9,
scheduled for 4 and 8 p.m. and concludes with two additional Pro Stock
sessions on Saturday, June 10, at 12 and 3 p.m. The Wright,
Minn.-native, who current lives in Terrell, N.C., begins his quest for
the CARQUEST Auto Parts Nationals Pro Stock title on Sunday, June 11,
with eliminations for all classes beginning at 11 a.m. *All times are
local Chicago time (CT) and subject to change at anytime. *
Qualifying highlights for NHRA CARQUEST Auto Parts Nationals can be seen
