JOLIET, Ill. (June 7, 2006) -- Greg Anderson, driver of the KB Racing
LLC-owned, Summit Racing Equipment-backed Pro Stock Pontiac GTO, goes
after two wins at the NHRA CARQUEST Auto Parts Nationals which unfolds
this weekend, Thurs. through Sun. (June 8-11) at Route 66 Raceway, on
the grounds of Chicagoland Speedway, in Joliet, Ill.
First on Saturday, Anderson vies for the King Demon Crown, a special
event for Pro Stock drivers run in conjunction with this weekend's
CARQUEST Auto Parts Nationals. Anderson, who was born in Duluth, Minn.,
and now lives in the Charlotte, N. C. area, secured the No. 1 position
of the eight qualified drivers.
Racers accrue points based on their qualifying position at each of the
23 national events preceding the King Demon Crown event. A No. 1
qualifying effort is worth 175 points, down to No. 16, which is worth 85
points. Drivers who do not qualify for an event do not earn points at
that race.
Anderson, who won the King Demon Crown in 2004 and was runner-up in
2003, collected 10 No. 1s, more than twice the number of any other
competitor in the event this year, earning the top spot. He accumulated
3,740 points. The winner of this year's King Demon Crown receives
$50,000, while the runner-up takes home $10,000.
Once qualified for the CARQUEST Auto Parts Nationals, on Sunday Anderson
will have the opportunity to go after the event title. In addition to
the other drivers, the three-time and defending NHRA POWERade Pro Stock
champion must also overcome the Route 66 quarter-mile strip, a track
that according to Anderson's standards he hasn't had much success on in
the past.
Anderson, who has had 40 national wins in 60 final rounds during his
career, has just three national event final rounds and no wins in all
his visits to Route 66 Raceway. It is one of two tracks on the 2006
NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series schedule that Anderson has not posted a
win, the other being Richmond's Virginia Motorsports Park. Dual wins
this weekend will erase part of that deficit on his otherwise record
producing statistics.
Entering qualifying for the NHRA CARQUEST Auto Parts Nationals, Anderson
leads all challengers in the battle for the 2006 NHRA POWERade Pro Stock
championship. He has 632 points and is 73 points ahead of his teammate
Jason Line, who is No. 2. Only 124 points separate the top five drivers.
Qualifying for Anderson and his KB Racing LLC/Summit Racing Equipment
Pro Stock Pontiac GTO begins with two Pro Stock sessions on Friday, June
9, scheduled for 4 and 8 p.m. and concludes with two additional Pro
Stock sessions on Saturday, June 10, at 12 and 3 p.m. The
Minnesota-native, North Carolina-transplant begins his quest for the
CARQUEST Auto Parts Nationals Pro Stock title on Sunday, June 11, with
eliminations for all classes beginning at 11 a.m. *All times are local
Chicago time (CT) and subject to change at anytime. *
