KCR Release 6-5

Long tapped to drive for KCR
Eddyville, Ky. – Carl Long will pilot the #23 Keith Coleman Racing Chevrolet beginning in the Federated Auto Parts 300 at Nashville Superspeedway, the team announced today.
Long has made 35 combined starts in part-time duties on NASCAR’s top three series, including 22 on the Nextel Cup Series since 2001. But he said the prospect of competing full-time was what pulled him to KCR.
“To be able to go out and race competitively this weekend is what I’m looking forward to,” said Long. “I haven’t been able to do that in awhile.”
Long, who resides in Troutman, N.C., is married and has three children. In 23 years of racing he has amassed 48 career victories, including a NASCAR sanctioned event at Bristol Motor Speedway. He also has numerous poles, top fives, top 10s and track championships to his credit over that span.
The move to KCR will reunite Long with crew chief Keith Montgomery, who was on the pit box for Long’s first start on NASCAR’s premiere series, the Coca Cola 600 in 2000. Long said the chance to work with Montgomery and help build the organization was important to him.
“I like the challenge,” explained Long. “Its good to be a part of something new and I’m looking forward to being able to race. I want to be a part of building this organization so that pretty soon we’ll be running competitively and then move up to winning races.”
