Another Top Five for Edwards Brothers at Langley Speedway

For Immediate Release

Due to heavy rainfall throughout the afternoon in the Hampton Roads area,
practice and qualifying were cancelled for tonight’s Coca-Cola 100 but Sandy
Lemonds (track owner) and her crew didn’t let it stop the racing!

The Crossroads Fuels Late Model drivers were lined up by track points
standings. The Edwards brothers made up the front row, Greg #27 on the pole
and brother Danny #26 just on the outside. The light was green, the flag
was dropped and the brothers dueled to take the lead. Greg shot ahead and
his brother ducked in behind him. On the third lap, the 40 of Mark Wertz
made his way between the brothers just before the first caution of the
night. Going into lap four, the 02 of Chris Munger brought out the first
caution when his car started smoking in turn one.

With three laps back on the board, they were back to green. The three Dodge
’s ran upfront for the next thirty-six laps until the 01 of Jeff Shiflett
ducked under Danny. Two laps later, the 29 of Casey Wyatt passed him and
then came the 22 of JJ Jetson. Danny was having problems with his car and
falling back while he was trying work it out. Danny was now running 6th as
his brother Greg still held the lead.

With 53 laps to go, Wertz stayed on Greg’s bumper trying to make a pass and
by lap 58 he did just that. Wertz made his way to the outside of the 27 on
the backstretch. Greg said later that he let him by without a battle
thinking Wertz would wear out his tires before the end. Then on lap 66,
Greg hit it just a little too fast going into turn four and the tires
started to spin. As he was trying to make the correction, the 29 of Casey
Wyatt got into the rear corner of the 27 on the front stretch. Greg said he
could feel the 29 making contact as he was trying not to lose control.
Casey immediately let off as Greg pulled ahead and they both made a clean
break without incident.

On lap 70, the 22 of JJ Jetson spun out Jeff Shiflett in the 01 on the
front-stretch putting both the 22 and 01 to the rear for the restart. This
moved Danny back up to fourth as Greg was still trying to make a run to
regain the lead. Mark was still holding the lead and running a half of
straightaway ahead until lap 93 when the 21 of Anthony Warren blew a trail
of smoke on front-stretch causing the last caution of the night. On the
restart, Greg tried to gain on Wertz for the last eight laps but Wertz’s car
was just too fast to catch tonight.

The Edwards brothers had top five finishes with Greg in second and brother
Danny in fourth. Un-official track points now have the brothers in First
(Greg) and Second (Danny) Place for Points! With 17 races left in the
season, it could still be anyone’s victory for the Track Championship and
the “The Race for the Ring”. Mark Friedman’s Custom Jewelers located in
Yorktown, Virginia will present the “Track Championship Ring” at the end of
the season.

It was certainly an exciting night of racing and we congratulate Mark Wertz
on his win!
