Subaru Northwest Region Sales Up 11% In May

Subaru Forester and Impreza sales rise as fuel efficiency, safety and performance are top of mind for car buyers in the Northwest

PORTLAND, Ore., June 5 -- Subaru of America, Inc. reported a 13 percent rise in national May sales, over the same period last year, posting a total of 16,406 units. A major contributor to this success was the Subaru Northwest Region that sold 2,277 vehicles in May posting its own 11 percent hike over the previous year's May sales. Sales of the Subaru Forester were up 28 percent and Subaru Impreza sales also jumped 8.5 percent in the Northwest Region for the month.

"With fuel efficiency, safety and performance being top of mind for customers in the Northwest, the all-wheel drive Subaru Forester and Impreza posted strong gains," said Jim Pernas, regional vice president, Subaru Northwest Region, Subaru of America, Inc. "These numbers reflect the tremendous efforts of the Subaru dealers in the region. Subaru Northwest Region Dealers also continue to lead the nation in Subaru Certified Pre-Owned vehicle sales and Subaru Added Security sales penetration."

Reflecting customer enthusiasm for its new $4.7 million downtown Portland facility, Wentworth SubaruCity finished first in Subaru sales for the Portland metro market. Carr Subaru ranked second in Portland this month, but is still the Subaru Northwest Region's total sales leader with 501 units sold year-to-date. Continental Subaru in Anchorage, Alaska posted the steepest gain of any Subaru dealer in the region for the month of May, with a 77 percent rise in sales from the previous May, totaling nearly 100 units for the month.

Total US Subaru Sales by Model Line

Both the Subaru Forester and Impreza lines were up 18 percent, with the Subaru Forester totaling 4,160 unit sales and the Subaru Impreza posting 3,152 unit sales for the month. The Subaru B9 Tribeca also recorded a strong 1,481 units for the month of May. The Subaru Legacy model line posted an increase with a total of 7,197 units, with Subaru Outback posting 5,065 units for the month. Subaru Baja recorded 416 units in May.
