Applications for Fourth Round of Funding from the $200M Texas Emerging Technology Fund Sought by SATAI

SAN ANTONIO--June 5, 2006--The San Antonio Technology Accelerator Initiative (SATAI) announced today under its designation as host of the South Texas Regional Center of Innovation and Commercialization (STRCIC) that applications are being accepted for the fourth quarterly round of funding from the state's $200 million Emerging Technology Fund (ETF). The South Texas region encompasses 31 counties and includes the cities of Corpus Christi, Victoria, San Antonio, New Braunfels, Kerrville, Junction and Boerne.

Applicants should be in the process of commercializing proprietary and emerging technology in collaboration with a Texas-based institution of higher education in one or more of the following fields: semiconductor manufacturing, software or information technology; nanotechnology or micro-electromechanical systems; biotechnology, life sciences or medicine; or industrial technologies such as energy, petroleum refining, chemical processing, aerospace or defense and others.

"The Emerging Technology Fund provides selected Texas companies with the most difficult to obtain, most sought after and the key enabler of early stage companies -- Money," said James Poage, President and CEO of SATAI. "The ETF is another tangible Texas benefit for companies doing business in San Antonio. SATAI is proud to assist the companies in our region to apply for these funds."

Submitted applications are reviewed by a non-biased committee composed of individuals from throughout the South Texas region. This committee in turn recommends the most competitive applications to the ETF's state-wide 17-member advisory committee. The final decision regarding funding is made by the Texas Governor, Lt. Governor and Speaker of the House. The multi layered and thorough review process ensures that projects meet economic outcome expectations and that the technical, marketing and business valuations and validations are completed.

South Texas companies and entrepreneurs who are interested in applying should download a Pre-application from www.strcic.com. The pre-application is the first step in applying and includes ample information on what the ETF's applications process entails. Pre-applications should be submitted to jdascher@satai-network.com when completed and applicants that match the ETF's eligibility criteria will be invited to make a full application. The full application must include a completed business plan and is due along with a $250 application fee to the STRCIC by June 27th.
