Contact with Back Marker Nets 16th Place Finish for
Andretti
Contact with Lapped Car Relegates Andretti to 16th Place at Watkins Glen
WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. (June 4, 2006) - Contact with a back marker on lap 38 ended a strong
run by Marco Andretti and the #26 NYSE car, resulting in a 16th place finish Sunday afternoon at the
IndyCar Series Watkins Glen Indy Grand Prix.
Andretti, starting the event from third place on the starting grid, displayed his skill as he battled
among the leaders over the slick, wet Watkins Glen circuit. Along the way, he recorded the fastest lap of
the race on lap 38, just moments before the contact with Eddie Cheever ended his run.
Scott Dixon took the victory with Vitor Meira second, Ryan Briscoe third, Buddy Rice fourth and
Felipe Giaffone fifth.
Next up for Andretti and the entire IndyCar Series will be the Bombardier Learjet 500 on
Saturday, June 10. The event will be televised live by ESPN, beginning at 9 p.m. (EDT). It can also be
heard live by XM Satellite Radio subscribers by tuning into XM channel 145.
Marco Andretti, #26 NYSE Dallara/Honda/Firestone:
"I thought the contact was pretty blatant and it wasn't the first time we've had problems with him
(Cheever). The NYSE car was a contender for the win and it's a bummer that we weren't there at the end.
We would have absolutely been a factor at the end. The car felt so good; the NYSE guys were doing an
awesome job in the pits and one more stop and we settle in and do it. I did have the fastest car on the
racetrack."
Kyle Moyer, General Manager, Andretti Green Racing:
"We had the fastest car, for sure. There was some pit strategy that pushed us back a bit but not in
a position to make us lose the race. We were plenty good to win and were biding our time, hanging with
the leaders because we had them covered. Then we got knocked out by a back marker that seems to be
doing this to us all the time."
