BRAINERD, Minn. - NHRA West Central division Lucas Oil Drag

qualifier Jared Dreher of Clinton, Ind., scored his first win of the season
while Top Alcohol Funny Car favorite Cy Chesterman of Sioux City, Iowa,
notched his second straight.

Dreher slipped into the eight-car field during Saturday's
qualifying with a 5.680-second, 250.78 mph pass. In the first round of
eliminations, he faced No. 1 qualifier Aaron Olivarez of Sandy, Utah, who

Olivarez 5.611 seconds at 248.34 mph to 5.768 seconds at 242.71 mph. Dreher

took the win when Meyer red-lighted. Dreher's final-round competitor, Jeff
Hamelink of Savage, Minn., also tripped the red light giving Dreher the trip
to the winner's circle.

For Chesterman, the win at BIR is his second of the year after
winning the division's season opener in Topeka, Kan. This weekend,
Chesterman qualified in the third position and made his best run of the
event in the semis against Roger Bateman of Calgary, Alb., when he laid down
a 5.759-second lap at 250.78 mph. The final round against veteran racer
Vern Moats of Des Moines, Iowa, had both cars getting out of shape during
the run. While Moats was disqualified for crossing the centerline,
Chesterman was able to hang on and trip the clocks with an 8.788-second,
99.33 mph pass.

Grand Rapids, Mich., racer Brad Zaskowski made two final-round
appearances at BIR. He scored the win in Comp Eliminator over No. 1
qualifier Clint Sallee of Glendive, Mont., and was runner-up in Super Stock
to top qualifier Michael Mans of Rogers, Minn. Scott Dougdale, Circle
Pines, Minn., and his '67 Chevelle outpaced T.J. Diekema, Mason City, Iowa,
and his '62 Fury in Stock Eliminator. In Super Comp, Chris Bruegger,
Hudson, Wis., took the win over Todd Malik, Andover, Minn., while Super Gas
racer John Steffen of Littleton, Colo., beat Joe Moulzolf, Foley, Minn., in
the final. Brainerd's own George Meyer earned the Super Street win over
Greeley, Colo., resident Mike Boehner and in Sportsman Motorcycle, Curtis
Spracklin, Omaha, Neb., took home the trophy against Jeff Lanoue of
Zimmerman, Minn. The Top Comp final was a family affair as Jami Stoen,
Owatonna, Minn., faced off against his father, Roger Stoen of Medford,
Minn., and got the win.

West Central division racers head to Denver for the next NHRA
