Ford Dover Busch Race
FORD RACING NOTES AND QUOTES Stonebridgeracing.com 200
(Busch),
June 3, 2006 Dover International Speedway
GREG BIFFLE-16-Ameriquest/Soaring Dreams Ford Fusion (Finished 8th) - "I
had a fast car. I just screwed up. I hit the apron and scraped the
right side of the car. It doesn't look that bad, but I took myself out
of contention by doing that." TRACK POSITION LOOKED TO BE KEY TODAY.
"It was. When I got back there I was way, way too loose and I had to
work my way back to the front. When I got back near the front, then I
was pretty good, just a little tight. We had stickers and scuffs and
we've got to stop doing that. We have to stick with one thing because I
think when you switch around the car does different stuff and you get in
trouble."
STACY COMPTON-59-Kingsford/Bush's Baked Beans Ford Fusion (Finished
12th) - "We had an awesome race car. I about wadded it up one time and
lost a bunch of track position, but the guys did a great job. The
Kingsford Ford was good. We knew it was good in practice, but I just
wish we could have qualified. We were eighth quick yesterday in
practice and we knew we had a good race car, but we had to tiptoe early
to try to keep from getting caught up in a wreck. We made a bunch of
gains and I think we got up to the top 15 before that first caution, and
we got up to 11th and I about wrecked getting into one and lost about 10
spots right there, and it took us the rest of the race to get those
back. But, the guys did an awesome job. The car was good. It was the
same car that we had at Bristol and we had an awesome run there, and I
think we need to take this car everywhere we go." THERE SEEMED TO BE
SOME GOOD GREEN-FLAG RACING TODAY. "Dover is notorious for having a
bunch of cautions and then a long green flag. We had a semi-long green
flag and then a bunch of cautions and then a long green flag. It's good
to see long green flags in the Busch Series because a lot of these guys,
us included, really work hard to set this things up for long runs and we
haven't had long runs this year, and on a long run our car was real
good. I wish we could have had a few more of them, but we'll take it.
It was a good run for us, and we needed that. We needed that bad."
CARL EDWARDS-60-Weyerhaeuser/iLevel Ford Fusion (Finished 2nd) - YOU
PITTED FOR TIRES WITH 50 TO GO AND RESTARTED IN SIXTH. WAS THAT THE
DIFFERENCE TODAY? "I just didn't expect it to be that fast without
getting tires. I was trying real hard. That was fun when we were
three-wide racing for the lead there. That was about as good as it
gets. Congratulations to Jeff Burton; he must have stayed at the
Holiday Inn last night. That was fun, though. iLevel did a great job.
I wish we could have got them the win, but it was a great points day. I
had a blast." YOU ARE REALLY STARTING TO BUILD SOME POSITIVE MOMENTUM.
"It's just fun. Jack gave me a chance to drive that truck last night.
We had a great car today and I've got a great car for tomorrow; the
Office Depot Ford is fast. This is becoming one of my favorite race
tracks in the last couple of days. This has been fun. Another second,
or maybe even a win tomorrow would be great."
JON WOOD-47-Clorox/American Red Cross Ford Fusion (Finished th) - WHAT
HAPPENED? "I was just racing everybody too hard. It's easy to get to
overdriving a car when you're racing some of these guys that we're
having to race with. They're just incredibly good, and I caught myself
at times driving a little too hard and that was the case."
REGAN SMITH-35-McDonald's Ford Fusion (Finished 39th) - WHAT HAPPENED?
"I got down into turn four earlier there and got into the back of
Ashton. The 90 car was up high all sucked up, and Ashton got into the 1
and I got into the back of him. I couldn't do anything to avoid it. I
hate it for all of the Marines guys on that team and all the McDonald's
Ford Fusion guys on my team. We broke a brake rotor there the second
time, so we're just going to get it fixed and get out there and make
laps and stay out of the way."
ASHTON LEWIS, JR.-25-United States Marines Ford Fusion (Finished 42nd) -
WHAT PUT YOU BEHIND THE WALL? "I just got caught in the wreck. I guess
the caution came out, and I tried to slow down for it. I got in the
back of Mike Wallace and we were just trying to get checked up. I was
hoping he would save it, and I was watching him save it and got hit from
behind. It's unfortunate for this whole Team Marines Ford race crew.
We've got Todd Brewer over here as crew chief now and it's only our
second race with him and had a really good practice yesterday, and I was
looking forward to the race. I really feel like the team is making some
good strides forward, and it's just unfortunate. I really felt like we
had a car here, but we needed an adjustment. We started the race too
tight, and I don't know if that's just because of the weather compared
to what it was yesterday and rubber laid down on the track. It's just
unfortunate. We really didn't want to sit behind the wall. We needed
to have a good finish here and get some good points. We've been falling
too much here lately. We'll battle it back. I guess the big problem is
now, we knocked the exhaust pipe off and we don't have a spare, so if
they can either pull it off the backup car or see if the ones I just
knocked off will go back on the car. It's frustrating."
CARL EDWARDS PRESS CONFERENCE
"What a great day from start to finish. We had a really fast car. We
got fortunate that qualifying rained out. It made it a lot simpler
starting second. But, at the end we elected to pit with 50 laps to go.
We had 28 or 29 laps on our tires, so I figured we came out sixth and I
thought it was our race to lose here. We've got the best tires and
probably the fastest car. Low on behold, I got up to second behind
Burton and I couldn't catch. My hat's off to those guys, they did a
great job. That car was spectacular, so second place was all I could
get. If we would have had old tires, we probably would have finished
fourth or fifth. I think we did everything we could, they just had a
faster car or he did a better job driving, one of the two."
HOW IS YOUR CAR FOR TOMORROW? "Pretty fast, actually in Happy Hour. I
think our Office Depot car is real good. I think it's real good. It's
just hard to tell. The track changes a lot here. I think the biggest
thing tomorrow is going to be being able to keep up with it. Our car
changed a lot throughout the day, or the track changed a lot, so I feel
like we've got a good car for tomorrow. It's just no telling though.
These races are tough to call just because of the way the track changes.
I'd really like to win one of these things this weekend and that'd be a
good one to win."
