SAMAX - Lime Rock race
SAMAX Motorsport had a short track day at Lime Rock Park in Lakeville,
Conn., as both team cars made an early exit from the May 29 Rolex Sports Car
Series race on the 1.53-mile road course.
Mark Greenberg of Boston was at the wheel of the No. 17 SAMAX Porsche 911
GT3 Cup car when it tangled with another car 10 minutes into the two-hour
45-minute race. The contact snapped the car's left-front suspension, forcing
it out of the race. Greenberg's co-driver, Ryan Hunter-Reay of Boca Raton,
Fla., did not drive.
Greg Wilkins of Toronto moved up one position in the No. 71 SAMAX/ Doncaster
Racing Porsche, from 13th to 12th, before he was zapped out of the race at
the 13-minute mark. He swerved to avoid a spinning car in front of him, but
tapped the Porsche's right front, damaging the radiator and suspension. His
son Mark Wilkins didn't drive.
Mark Wilkins was disappointed with the result, but he was encouraged by the
team's progress in developing the car.
"The crew did a great job on the setup of the car in the warmup this
morning. The car was really good – the best the car has been all year – so
that was a positive," he said.
