Will heads into eliminations from the No. 7 qualifying position
TOPEKA, Kan. (May 27, 2006) - With four consistent passes down the
mostly hot and tricky Heartland Park Topeka (HPT) track, Hillary Will
ended qualifying for the 18th annual NHRA O'Reilly Summer Nationals in
the No. 7 qualifying position.
In Friday night's evening session, which was by far the coolest of her
four qualifying session, Will behind the wheel of the KB Racing
LLC-owned, Kalitta Motorsports-managed Top Fuel dragster ran her best
qualifying pass, a 4.665-second pass.
On Saturday, Will made two strong passes in the record-breaking heat,
running 4.748 seconds in the first session and 4.769 seconds in the
second. These two passes should give Will the confidence she needs to
pursue her first win of the 2006 POWERade Drag Racing Series.
"Jim O (Oberhofer) and the team gave me a very good, very consistent car
throughout qualifying. It went down the track four out of four times
which translates to 100 percent and A-plus. Now I have a lot of
confidence that tomorrow we can get down the track four times and pick
up four wins," said Will.
In tomorrow's opening round of eliminations, Will faces No. 10 qualifier
Morgan Lucas, who covered the HPT quarter-mile in 4.699 seconds.
Will begins her quest for the O'Reilly Summer Nationals Top Fuel title
on Sunday, May 28, with eliminations for all classes beginning at 11
a.m. All times are local Topeka time (CT) and subject to change at
anytime.
