Office Depot Names Dodge City's K&M Storage ''Official Small Business of NASCAR''; K&M's Logo to Be Unveiled on No. 99 Office Depot Ford Fusion at Lowe's Motor Speedway
DELRAY BEACH, Fla.--May 26, 2006--Office Depot , a leading global provider of office products and services, today announced that K&M Storage of Dodge City, KS, will become the "Official Small Business of NASCAR, courtesy of Office Depot" for the remainder of the 2006 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup race season. The winning company is being celebrated at Lowe's Motor Speedway, where K&M Storage owner Duane Nietling will join with NASCAR star Carl Edwards, Roush Racing owner Jack Roush and Tony Ueber, Senior Vice President of Marketing for Office Depot, to unveil the No. 99 Office Depot Ford Fusion. The car features the new K&M Storage logo that will make its debut on track during the Coca-Cola 600 (Saturday, May 27, 2006, 5:00 p.m. ET, FOX).As the Official Small Business of NASCAR, K&M Storage, a self-storage facility, is receiving invaluable exposure that can jump start a small business, especially one that is new. Founded just 18 months ago, K&M did not have the resources to develop its own company logo or marketing materials, an obstacle that Office Depot has helped them overcome. Nietling worked with Logoworks, part of the Office Depot Copy, Print and Ship service to create K&M's first-ever company logo. The new K&M logo is being featured on the TV panel (rear panel on a NASCAR racecar) of the No. 99 Office Depot Ford Fusion during this weekend's race at Lowe's Motor Speedway. Throughout the rest of the season, the logo will be on the car's b-post (located between the front and rear windows).
As part of the prize package, Office Depot is also printing a year's supply of new business cards, letterhead and envelopes for K&M to use. Plus, K&M receives a $10,000 small business makeover from Office Depot, as well as the advice of a small business expert to help K&M take full advantage of their new business and marketing assets.
"This is a dream come true," Nietling said. "When I heard about this opportunity from Office Depot, I thought it sounded incredible, but I never imagined I would win. My business has been growing slowly but surely over the past year and a half and this should give us the boost we need to really take off!"
"I'm really proud to be driving the Office Depot car with the logo of K&M Storage during the race this weekend," said Carl Edwards, driver of the No. 99 Office Depot Ford Fusion. "Small business has always had a big impact on the world of racing, and even today a lot of people involved in NASCAR are small business owners. I think it's awesome that Office Depot has found a way to recognize small businesses with this really cool opportunity."
To kick off K&M Storage's role as the "Official Small Business of NASCAR," Nietling and three guests are spending a VIP weekend in Charlotte for the Coca-Cola 600, including a tour of the Roush Racing shop, and the opportunity to meet Edwards and the Office Depot No. 99 team.
"I have been a NASCAR fan and a supporter of Roush Racing for as long as I can remember," Nietling noted. "I have been to a couple of races before, but I have never had the opportunity for this kind of access to the cars and drivers. This is a dream come true for me."
"Office Depot is committed to helping our customers combine their energy for work with their passion for life," Ueber said. "Entrepreneurs like Duane have a unique drive to succeed and we recognize how important it is for Office Depot to deliver winning solutions that inspire worklife. We're not only providing business tools for K&M Storage, we are giving Duane and his guests an incredible experience in a sport that they love."
"More than six million small business owners call themselves NASCAR fans and they are truly passionate about their business and our sport," said Jim O'Connell, Vice President of Corporate Marketing for NASCAR. "Office Depot's connection to this audience with this unique promotion has proven to be a model for companies looking to reach their core customers through NASCAR."
From February 12 through April 9, 2006, employees or owners of small businesses with no more than 99 employees were given the chance to enter the "Official Small Business of NASCAR" Sweepstakes via the internet at www.officedepotracing.com or at any Office Depot retail store.
