California Auto Dealerships Highly Regulated, Face Many Litigation Risks
In addition to regulations pertaining to finance and insurance (F&I), sales management, desking, employment practices, workplace safety, and more, dealerships in California will soon be subject to new regulations affecting their documentation and disclosure responsibilities, including:
-- Offering a three-day cooling-off period for used-car buyers
-- Giving consumers the option to sign a contract to return a vehicle within three days
-- Requiring disclosure to a customer of his or her credit score
-- Limiting the use of the term "certified vehicle"
-- Providing consumers with cost breakdowns
-- Capping profit on certain loans
