News Release - Racing Fans Treated to Ultimate NASCAR Viewing
Party at Irwindale Speedway
IRWINDALE, Calif. (May 21, 2006) –
Irwindale Speedway treated racing fans to an ultimate NASCAR viewing party last
Saturday night (May 20).
Track officials made arrangements for a
20’ x 27’ LED giant screen supplied by ScreenworksNEP to show FX Network’s
broadcast of the NASCAR Nextel All-Star Challenge while simultaneously
conducting its NASCAR Dodge Weekly Racing Series races. The screen was
positioned in the infield of the 1/2-mile oval, directly across from the main
grandstand, providing spectators with an unobstructed view of the broadcast
while watching racing action on the track. It is believed to be the first time
any short oval track facility made this type of an arrangement.
Saturday night’s event drew the largest
crowd of the season to date. At one point during the broadcast, FX Network
commentator Mike Joy referenced what was transpiring at Irwindale Speedway and
the crowd in the grandstand reacted with a huge cheer.
“We are extremely pleased by the
enthusiastic fan reaction to airing the NASCAR Nextel All-Star Challenge on the
giant screen,” said Bob DeFazio COO and General Manager of Irwindale Speedway.
“That along with an exciting racing schedule and warm weather contributed to the
success of the event making it an ultimate NASCAR viewing party. We will
definitely consider the possibility of a giant screen for future events when
NASCAR Nextel Cup races are on television.”
Racing action resumes at Irwindale
Speedway on Saturday May 27 with the King Taco 200 featuring the NASCAR Grand
National Division AutoZone West Series along with the Auto Club Late Model
Division. Action begins at 7 p.m.
