ANDERSON, KOKOMO HOST WED.-THURS. SPRINT RACES

CONCORD WINNER CLAUSON 1ST TO REPEAT THIS YEAR

The USAC National Sprint Cars head for Anderson (Ind.) Speedway Wednesday night for the "Sam Pierce Chevrolet 50," then trek to Kokomo (Ind.) Speedway Thursday night to compete on that refurbished 1/4-mile dirt oval. A 50-lap feature is on tap at Anderson and a 30-lapper is set for Kokomo.

Wednesday night's Anderson race will serve as a tune-up for Saturday night's 58th Payless "Little 500" USAC Special Event Sprint race at that oval, where Eric Gordon will be aiming for his sixth consecutive victory and eighth overall in one of America's most prestigious events.

Sixteen-year-old Bryan Clauson of Noblesville, Ind. became the first repeat winner in USAC's National Sprint Car Series Sunday night, winning the Mopar All-Star Shootout 50-lapper at Concord (N.C.) Motorsports Park. Clauson passed Ron Gregory on lap 16 and led the rest of the way in his Dodge/Advanced Racing Beast to beat fast qualifier Mike Murgoitio, Dave Darland, Gregory and Darren Hagen. Kyle Nicholas escaped injury in a flip during the feature.
